Under the name the Anglo-Welsh Cup, the competition goes back to 2006. That year, the London Wasps beat the Llaneli Scarlets 26 to 10 for the championship title and then the next year it was the Leicester Tigers who ended up on top, beating the Ospreys in the final 41 to 35. In 2008, the Ospreys turned things around, winning the competition and making the Tigers the runners-up. In 2009, the Cardiff Blues won the title and then in 2010 it was the Northampton Saints against Gloucester in the final, and of course last year Gloucester beat Newcastle for the win.
