Defending Lv= Anglo Welsh Cup Champions, the Exeter Chiefs, have made a fine start to the defence of their first ever major title, with home victories against West Country rivals Gloucester and Bath. Those wins have put them in control of Pool 4 at the halfway stage of the qualifying fixtures, with a three point advantage over Harlequins.

On Sunday, the Devonians travel across the Severn Bridge to take on Newport Gwent Dragons at Rodney Parade Stadium, knowing that their destiny remains in their own hands, and that if Quins lose to Bath on Saturday, a win would see them guaranteed a semi-final berth. The Dragons are themselves still in the hunt for a place in the last four. They are currently second in Pool 1, three points behind the leaders Saracens. However, with the table toppers visiting winless London Welsh on Sunday, the chances of closing the gap this weekend seem remote.

Both of Sunday's protagonists have made it through to the Quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup, winning their Pools with five wins out of six. Although Sunday will see both sides make a number of changes to the teams that ensured their qualification last weekend. The Chiefs will have two former Dragons in their starting XV, with Ceri Sweeney and Adam Hughes amongst the backs named take on the PRO12 outfit.
