The Ospreys take their opening Anglo Welsh Cup match of the season, away from their normal Liberty Stadium home, to St.Helens the home of Swansea RFC. Friday Evening's fixture pits the Welsh Region against the aristocrats of Harlequins from the Aviva Premiership, who will be playing their second game of the competition. The Ospreys will be hoping that they can repeat their performances of the early years in the Anglo-Welsh Cup, when they reached the final in two of the first three seasons in which the competition was held.

In 2006/07 they were defeated by the Leicester Tigers 35-41 at Twickenham, before returning the following season to beat the same opponents in a less free flowing fixture by 23-6, in front of a record crowd for the tournament of nearly 66,000. Quins head Pool 3, having opened their campaign with a 29-15 win at the Stoop against the Exeter Chiefs. Bristol and Wasps the other Premiership clubs competing in Pool 3 were both defeated in their opening fixtures. The Swansea Ospreys find themselves in Pool 2 alongside the Worcester Warriors and the Sale Sharks, both of whom won their opening fixtures, and the Exeter Chiefs.
