Friday 17th February 19:45 GMT

With just eight rounds of the regular season remaining in the Aviva Premiership, Gloucester who host the reigning Champions, Saracens at Kingsholm on Friday Evening, look as if they will have to be content to target a top six finish, which would provide them with passage into next season's Champions Cup, rather than a top four position, and a place in the post-season play-offs. Gloucester are currently in ninth position with 30 points from their 14 fixtures, which leaves them 13 points adrift of fourth placed Bath, and seven behind Harlequins who occupy six spot.

The West Country club have managed only four victories in the Premiership this season, but three of those successes have come in the last seven rounds. Their only defeat on home soil in any tournament since early October was by a solitary point in Round 12 against the Northampton Saints. Saracens, have struggled to cope with the demands made on their squad during the 6-Nations, and last weekend suffered a shock 18-24 defeat at lowly Worcester Warriors. While they are still sitting second in the table, they are now five points behind leaders Wasps. Gloucester Rugby have already defeated Friday's visitors once at Kingsholm this season, downing them by 36-32 in the Anglo-Welsh Cup.

Gloucester may have opened their Aviva Premiership campaign with an away victory aainst the Newcastle Falcons, but they will find this Fridays encounter, with the reigning Premership Champions, Saracens, an altogether different matter. The Cherry and Whites of Gloucester Rugby wll be roared on by the usual passionate Kingsholm following, but will have to overcome a club that has been defeated on the road in only one their last four away fixtures, and has a decent record at the venue, with two wins in their last four appearances there. While Gloucester will be looking for a second successive win at the start of the season for the first tme since 2007/08, Saracens will be looking to continue a run that has seen them win at least their two opening games of a Premiership campaign in every season since 2011/12.

It is Gloucester's turn to try and turn back the Saracens juggernaut this weekend, as the Cherry and Whites come face to face with the table toppers at Kingsholm, bidding to win three Premiership matches on the trot, for the first tome since October 2012. Kingsholm was once a fortress, where other teams feared to tread, and very few went away with a win to their name. However, Gloucester's last home match, against the Premiership's basement club, Worcester Warriors, which they scrapped home in by 12-6, brought to end a losing sequence of three successive home matches.

Saracens by contrast, have reached the halfway stage of the Premiership season, having won ten of their eleven Premiership matches this season, to match the feat that only Bath in 2003/04 and Harlequins in 2011/12, have achieved since 1999. The sole defeat coming in round six, when they were soundly beaten by the team currently in second place in the table, Northampton Saints by 20-41. The only time that Gloucester Rugby have beaten Saracens in their last seven clashes, was the 28-23 win that they posted in late April at Kingsholm, though Series record at Gloucester since 2005 makes for poor reading, with just a 19-17 win to their name in the Premiership, which came in late October 2011.
