London Wasps                          Harlequins
Sunday 2nd October 13:30 GMT

Wasps may have lost top spot in the Aviva Premiership to Saracens, as the result of Sarries playing on Friday Night at Ashton gate against the hapless Bristol, and securing a bonus point 39-0 victory. But they remain the only unbeaten team in the competition, and will look to return to the summit of the ladder when they host Harlequins on Sunday at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Four straight wins to begin the season, is wasps best start to a campaign since 1996/97, and they will expect to extend that winning run against the inconsistent Quins at their home venue, where they are now enjoying a run of 11 consecutive victories in all tournaments.

Quins will arrive in Coventry full of confidence after their upset defeat of the reigning Champions Saracens at the Stoop last weekend by 17-10, a result that ended Sarries own unbeaten start to the season. However, their form away from home is quite woeful, with only a single success on the road since early January, and that was 32-25 at London Irish on 1st May. Irish were subsequently relegated to the Championship. While London Wasps are highly unlikely to repeat the try fest of their last outing in front of their own fans, when they beat Bristol 70-22, they should have too much fire power for their visitors, and will go to Saracens next week, as the table toppers.

Wasps and Harlequins meet in a vital Aviva Premiership fixture at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Sunday, the two sides occupying third and fourth position, and each having accumulated 37 points in their 13 matches to date. Wasps are the form team in the Premiership, having secured 23 points in the last six games that they have played in the tournament. Including a sequence of five consecutive wins, the best that they have managed since 2008.

In contrast to Wasps recent run of victories, Harlequins were on a run of four consecutive defeats in all tournaments, before they brought that run to an end last week, when they secured a victory at the Stoop against Leicester Tigers by 25-19. Harlequins need to improve on an away record that hasn't seen them win on the road in the Premiership since they visited Sixways and beat the Worcester Warriors in early January. The two sides who were once London rivals, have only met once at the Ricoh Arena, when London Wasps thrashed Quins by 37-6. That win is the only one that Wasps have managed in the last five meetings with Sunday's opponents. With fifth placed Leicester Tigers at home to bottom club London Irish this weekend, it is likely that the losers at the Ricoh will at least for one week, drop outside of the play-off positions.

There was a time when a Wasps against Harlequins fixture would have been a full blooded London derby. However, with London Wasps now firmly ensconced in Coventry, it is a derby match no more, when these two old rivals go head to head. Wasps who had won three successive Premiership games, before falling to Bath at the Rec in Round 13 by 26-39, have climbed almost un-noticed to fourth position in the table, on the back of those victories and their try scoring exploits that has seen them accumulate five try-scoring bonus points this season, a total only matches by the table topping Northampton Saints. The last time that Wasps were beaten at home in the Premiership, they were still playing at Adams Park. That loss came against Saracens at the end of last March.

Having been drawn in the same Champions Cup Pool, the two clubs have already clashed on three occasions this season. Each side won the away game in the Champions Cup, while Quins were victorious at the Stoop in Round 3 of the Premiership. Quins are three places lower than Wasps in the table, but trail their hosts on Sunday by just two points, having registered five point maximum wins in the last two rounds of Aviva Premiership matches, against Leicester Tigers and London Welsh.

Bitter rivals London Wasps and Harlequins square off in what promises to be a feisty first round Premiership encounter this weekend at Twickenham. Join and see London Wasps v Harlequins live on your computer. Harlequins finished third in the league last season and were eliminated in the playoff semifinals by eventual champions Leicester. There are only three new arrivals at the Stoop this summer- Prop Paul Doran-Jones, lock Nick Kennedy and winger Paul Sackey, with the last of the mentioned set to be an interesting element in this clash. Sackey, who played for England in the 2007 RWC final, had vowed not to play against Wasps at the time of his departure from the club in 2010, but has now ended up signing for their most bitter rivals.

Saturday, the 1st of September, the Aviva Premiership pits the London Wasps against the Harlequins in Twickenham at 14:00 local time and 13:00 GMT. We aren't able to take a look at what the Aviva Premiership teams have done so far this season, because they haven't done anything as of yet. There are no points and therefore no table. However, we can take a look at last year's Aviva Premiership table if we want to see what things might be like this year. We'll start with the London Wasps, who ended up in eleventh place last year with 33 points.

They won just six of their 22 games, and lost the rest. As for their opponents this week, they came in at the very top of the table last year with 83 points after winning nineteen of the 24 games that they played, with one draw.

London Wasps will host the top-placed Harlequins in the Aviva Premiership game of this Sunday that will begin at 1600 hours local time (1600 hours GMT). The match will be played at the Adams Park, Wycombe. This will be a golden opportunity for the Harlequins to consolidate their lead at the top of the table of the Aviva Premiership. Currently they are way ahead of the second-placed Saracens, having 39 points from their nine games, but most importantly, they are up against a side which are currently placed eighth in the league.

The London Wasps have won only two of their last seven games which gives some idea about how they have been going about their business and how the Harlequins will have a decent chance of making it 10 wins in a row. Yes, the visitors have yet to lose a game this season and to expect them to go down to the Wasps will be expecting a bit too much. This, despite it being a home game for the Wasps. In their previous game, the Harlequins defeated the Newcastle Falcons rather easily and one can expect a similar result in this one as well.
