The eight points that the Sale Sharks have accumulated so far, places them in ninth position in the table. The Leicester Tigers have won three of their four matches this season, including both of their previous away matches, at Gloucester and Newcastle Falcons. They were somewhat fortunate on both occasions however, coming from 7-31 down against Gloucester to win with a last gasp try, and squeezing a 14-13 success at the Falcons, who missed a last kick drop goal from in front of the posts. However, the Tigers did hit some of their best form last weekend, when they brought Bath's 100% winning start to the campaign to an end at Welford Road, securing a fine 34-14 victory.

Sale Sharks have suffered back to back Aviva Premiership losses, against Wasps and Northampton Saints, and have slipped 11 points adrift of the post-season play-off positions. Although the Sale Sharks have a game in hand on the clubs above the in the table, it appears that their target over the final weeks of the season will be to try and finish in the top six and claim a Champions Cup spot for next season. On Sunday, the Sharks welcome the Leicester Tigers to the AJ Bell Stadium, where they haven't been beaten since April of 2015, attempting to complete their first season's double over the East Midlands club since 2008, following their 10-3 success at Welford Road back in early February.

A run of three wins in the last four Premiership games that they have played, has seen the Leicester Tigers climb back into the top four in the table, but they only hold a three point advantage over their neighbours and great rivals, the Saints. The Tigers biggest issue this campaign has been trying to pick up points when they are playing away from their Welford Road home. Sale Sharks may have to overcome a mental barrier, as well as the immense physical challenge that will be presented as always by the visiting Leicester Tigers on Saturday. at the AJ Bell Stadium. The Tigers have won the last 10 fixtures between the two clubs in all competitions. Sale's last success coming way back in 2009, when they still played their home matches at Edgeley Park in Stockport, and they squeezed home by 15-12. However, Sale Sharks are currently in fifth position in the Premiership table, two places above their visitors, and are on a run of four straight Aviva Premiership wins, since they were beaten by reigning champions the Northampton Saints in Round 6. A fifth straight win, would be the first time that they have achieved the feat since 2006-07.

Leicester will still be smarting from last weekend's derby defeat to the Saints, when they failed to overcome the champions who played much of the game with 14 men, after Dylan Hartley's red-card. That defeat dropped the Tigers down to seventh position in the table, although they are only two points adrift of Saturday'sopponents. Coming up to the halfway point in the season; their does look the very real possibility that Tigers could miss out on the play-offs for the first time since 2003-04.

Although the Sale Sharks have secured their place in next seasons European Cup, they still harbour ambitions to make it into the post season Premiership play-offs. It appears in all probability that they will need two bonus victories to have a chance of making the top four by the end of the season. However, they are on a run that has seen them lose just once in their last six Premiership games, a 12-27 reverse against Harlequins at the AJ Bell Stadium in round 19. If Tigers manage to secure a try scoring bonus point win, they will be in the play-offs for a staggering tenth successive season, They may not even require that many match points, though they won't know that until Sunday, when Harlequins travel to Devon. If Harlequins fail to get five points at Exeter Chiefs on Sunday, then Leicester Tigers could be in the play-offs with a game to spare.
