Sale Sharks                          Saracens
Sunday 20th November 13:00 GMT

Sale Sharks who have lost just one of their last four Aviva Premiership fixtures, a crushing 3-30 reverse at the Rec against Bath in Round 6, will bid to become just the second side to defeat the reigning Champions Saracens in this season's tournament on Sunday, when they host the table leaders at the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford. The Salford based club have a formidable record on their own ground, suffering defeat to just one club on home soil in the Premiership since April 2015. Gloucester being their conquerors on two occasions. Most recently in Round 3 of this season's campaign.

Saracens who lead the table by just a single point from Wasps, have been beaten just once in their last 14 games in the competition. A 10-17 loss at the Stoop against Harlequins in Round 4 this season. A largely second string Saracens side were beaten at Kingsholm 32-36 by Gloucester in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in their most recent road trip. If they slip to defeat at the Sale Sharks on Sunday, it will be the first time that they have suffered back to back defeats on the road since January 2015. Although Saracens have been beaten just once in the last 10 meetings with the Sharks, a 10-15 reverse at the AJ Bell in February 2015, they have not won at the ground since February 2014.

Sale Sharks who are seventh in the Aviva Premiership table, play host to the leaders and reigning Champions, Saracens, at the AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday, protecting the only remaining unbeaten home record in the tournament. When the clubs met earlier in this season's Premiership, back in mid-October, the Saracens ran out comfortable winners at Allianz Park by 41-3. The Sale Sharks had won six successive matches before they travelled to Sixways last weekend, and were beaten by the Worcester Warriors 23-31. A result that leaves them six points outside the play-off positions. Saracens who head the table by four points, but have a massive 14 point cushion between themselves and fifth placed Leicester Tigers, have only been beaten once on their travels in any competition, since last April. A 23-29 loss at the Stoop against the Harlequins.

Sale have only enjoyed one win against Saturday's visitors in the last seven meetings between the club's in all tournaments, a 14-10 success at the AJ Bell Stadium in last season's Premiership. After suffering a record home defeat to Wasps, who crushed them by 64-23 the previous week, Saracens got back to winning ways last weekend, with a 25-12 success against Gloucester.

Two consecutive Premiership victories have seen Sale Sharks rise to sixth place in the table, just two points off of a post-season play-off place, and on Saturday they have a chance to close the gap on one of the teams currently above them, Saracens, who are the visitors to the AJ Bell Stadium. Saracens win last Sunday against Bath, saw them consolidate their third place, while narrowing the gap on their opponents from the West Country to just four points.

The two clubs have already met three times this season, having been drawn in the same Champions Cup Pool, as well as a Aviva Premiership game at the Allianz Park. Sarries have won all three clashes so far, to add to last season’s double over the Sharks. In fact in a run of 12 games, that stretches back 12 games, the Sharks have only beaten Saracens once, a 28-22 success in early January 2011, at their previous home of Edgeley Park in Stockport. Although Saracens have lost just once in their last five Premiership matches, when they visited Kingsholm in Round 13, and fell 23-24 to a last gasp James Hook penalty, they have won only once on the road in the tournament since September, when they beat lowly Newcastle Falcons just after Christmas.

The focus returns solely to the domestic game this weekend, as the 6-nations championship takes a break. With Sale Sharks facing Saracens at the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday night, being the first contest of an action packed fixture list. Sale last week managed to overcome a dogged, but ill-disciplined Gloucester team, by 24-19, and remain in sixth position in the Aviva Premiership table, a mere two points behind Harlequins, who occupy the fourth and last position for the end of season play-offs. Saracens meanwhile fell to a first ever regular season defeat at their Allianz Park ground, where until London Irish lowered their colors, only Northampton in last season’s semi-final play-off had triumphed. Although Saracens were without many of their first choice XV, the exiles were excellent value for their 22-13 victory, playing with an intensity that the home side was unable to match on the day.

The result dropped Saracens to second in the table, although they still have a ten point buffer over third placed Bath, and it is almost unthinkable that they would miss out on a home match in the play-off semi- finals. The Exiles victory although leaving them in tenth position, lifted them a massive 17 points clear of bottom club Worcester Warriors, and all but mathematically ensure their position in the top tier of English rugby next season.
