The bottom two sides in the 2015 Currie Cup table at the end of seven rounds of competition, meet in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, when the Eastern Province Kings face the Griquas. Both sides lost all of their first five fixtures during the campaign, broke their duck in Round 6, and were beaten once more last weekend, to leave them with one win and six defeats each. Eastern Province just holding the upper hand, having secured three bonus points, to the Griquas two.
This will be the final home game of the season for the Kings, who finish the season with trips to take on the Bulls and Western Province. Saturday looks as if it provide the Kings with their last chance of registering a second win of the season.Given that the Kings have only played two of their seven matches against top three sides, both against the unbeaten Lions, the season should be considered even more disappointing than the mere statistics suggest.
The Griquas have played three games on the road so far in 2015, losing them all, and conceding on average, just under 40 points per games. In their defence, however, all three of those games were played against teams in the playoff positions.Undoubtedly, the Griquas fixture list has been tougher than Saturday's opponents, and that may just work in their favour as they seek the win that will almost certainly mean they avoid the wooden spoon, at the expense of their hosts.
