The rock bottom Griquas will go into Saturdays home match in Kimberley against the Pumas, still seeking a first win of the 2015 Currie Cup season. A solitary bonus point for scoring four tries against the Bulls in Round 4, is all that they have to their credit, after five successive defeats. It isn't quite the last chance saloon time yet for the Griquas, but should they lose again on Saturday, they can probably start preparing to have to negotiate the play-offs to attempt to win a place in next season's tournament.

The Pumas currently have an eight point advantage over their hosts, with the Kings sitting between the two of them. A win for the visitors at the weekend, would lift them back into contention for a play-off position, as they currently sit just four points adrift of the Sharks, to whom they lost by just a single point in Durban in Round 5.

The teams have met on four occasions over the past two seasons, and the home side has been victorious on every occasion. With three home games in the last four rounds, if the Pumas can sneak a win on Saturday, they might just fancy their chances of squeezing into the top four at the end of the season.

The Griquas face another major challenge on Saturday, when the Pumas travel to the Hoffe Park Stadium Kimberley in Round 6 of the 2014 Currie Cup regular season. It was only last weekend that the Griquas managed to post their first win of the 2014 tournament, after four successive defeats. But what a fixture they chose to record that first success. They traveled to Kings Park in Durban to take on the reigning champions the Natal Sharks, who were smarting from their first defeat of the campaign the previous week against the Pumas, and few gave the visitors much chance of coming away anything but empty handed.

However, despite losing the try count by 2-0, the Griquas kept kicking the penalties that were put on offer by strangely ill-disciplined Sharks, and looked to have sealed the win, until Prop Thomas du Toit scored a try with four minutes left and looked to have earned the hosts a draw. That was until Griquas fullback Francois Brummer kicked a last drop goal after the siren to secure an 18-21 victory.

The Pumas enjoyed a comfortable win in Round 3 when the teams met in Nelspruit, by 33-15, one of four wins from their five fixtures this season. After beating the Sharks in week 4, they followed up with a 31-17 success against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein, which kept them firmly in second spot on the table.
