Both the Sharks and the Bulls who clash at Kings Park in Durban on Friday in the opening game of the 2015 Currie Cup Round 8, are desperate for victory, in their quest for a high regular season finishing position. After successive defeats to the Western Province and the Lions, the Sharks now find themselves outside the play-off positions, currently residing in fifth place, four points behind the Cheetahs with three matches in the regular season still to play.

After starting the season with five successive wins, the Bulls have slipped up in the past two weeks, losing to the same opponents as the Natal Sharks over that period. Those losses have seen the Bulls slip eight points adrift of the Lions at the top of the ladder, while retaining just a one point advantage over the reigning Champions, Western Province, in the hunt for second place and a home semi-final.

The Sharks chances of making the play-offs, may well depend on their ability to shock the Bulls on Friday. This will be the Sharks final home game of the season, with the previous four contests producing just two unconvincing successes against the Kings and the Pumas. A win on Friday, should see the Blue Bulls on their way to a home semi-final, as they finish the season with games against the Kings at home, and a trip to the Pumas to finish the 2015 regular season. Two games that they should ease through.
