The Sharks and Pumas who meet on Saturday at Kings Park Stadium, Durban, are two of the clutch of four teams who have won two and lost two of their opening four fixtures in this seasons Currie Cup. With the Lions and Bulls both posting a maximum 20 points already, and the Kings and Griquas yet both to win, it looks as if come the business end of the season, that it will be two from these four sides, that will make it through to the play-offs, to join the current top two on the ladder.
Although the Natal Sharks have won twice so far, both wins have come against the winless Eastern Province Kings, while their two tougher assignments have both ended in defeat. Including an opening round loss to Saturday's opponents in Nelspruit, where the Pumas won by 33-24.
The Pumas form is slightly more difficult to measure. Since that opening day win, they have also defeated the Kings, like the Pumas only narrowly, by 15-13. There two defeats have come against the table topping Lions, and in both cases they conceded 40+ points. Home advantage may just be enough to see the Sharks revenge their earlier defeat to the Pumas, and lift them into the top 4 on the ladder at the halfway stage of the regular season.
