Saturday 20th June 16:30 GMT

France and South Africa Under 20s meet on Saturday at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, Cremona in the match that no one ever wants to play in. The play-off for third and fourth positions. Both teams topped their qualifying Pools, the South Africans a little more impressively than their European rivals, and went into the tournament semi-finals full of confidence and expectation.

However, the France Under 20s found themselves blown away by the Junior Blacks, who produced their best form of the tournament, and ended up dispatching the French 45-7, and by 6-1 tries, and all that after the French had led early on by 7-3. The Junior Boks had rampaged through their Pool, with three bonus point wins, against Samoa and the hosts Italy, and most impressively in a winner take all game against Australia by 46-13. Effectively eliminating the Australian youngsters, while securing the top seeding spot for themselves.

However, in the semi-final, the Junior Boks came up against the winners of the last two tournaments, and the team that beat them in last year's final by 20-21, England. With the English first subduing the much vaunted Springbok's pack and then demolishing them, they were able to dominate the game, and won much more easily than the final 28-20 scoreline suggests.

Hosts France will be seeking a win to keep their tournament hopes alive when they take on defending champions South Africa in Group A. The French picked up their first points in the tournament with a bonus point victory over the United States. Six different players scored for the hosts, with Vincent Mallet having a perfect afternoon with the boot, kicking six conversions and a penalty. However with England expected to whip the United States, even a bonus point victory against South Africa may not be enough to see France qualify for the semis. Both France and England have 5 points, with South Africa leading with 9.

The Baby Bocks started off well against England but faded as the game progressed and could consider themselves somewhat lucky to finish winners. Winger Seabelo Senatla scored two tries for the side, with monster No.7 Jacques du Plessis netting the other try. However the Bocks tight five as well as the midfield after outside centre Justin Geduld departure, looked shaky, and France will be keen to exploit any chinks.
