Wales and France Under 20s open the 2015 World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Calvisano on Tuesday, knowing that with the reigning Champions England also in their qualifying pool, a victory in the opening fixture is vital to their chances of making it through to the semi-finals. This year sees the eighth staging of the tournament, and in the first seven competitions, Tuesday's protagonists have made only one solitary appearance in the final between them. Wales Under 20s losing in 2013 to England, while the best French performance came in 2011, the last time the tournament was held in Italy. On that occasion, the French team finished in fourth place.

When the teams met in this season's 6-nations tournament the French were comfortable winners by 27-5. Part of an inconsistent season for the Welsh, who had started with a magnificent backs to the wall win over England, but saw them slip to the Scottish youngsters, as well as France.

The Welsh have suffered a blow, with the promotion on the Newport Gwent Dragons centre Tyler Morgan, to the senior World Cup training squad, following the injury to Jonathan Davies. While it is a wonderful opportunity for the player, the U20's will certainly miss his class in the midfield.
