Having missed Scotlands first two World Cup warm up fixtures, a defeat against Ireland, and a win against Italy, Gloucester scrum-half Greig Laidlaw returns to the side for Saturdays return match against Italy in Edinburgh. Scotland coach, Vern Cotter, has also named Laidlaw as his captain for the game, having led the side through the 2014 Autumn Test series and the 2015 6_nations tournament.

Having changed almost his entire squad for the Italy game in Turin, from that which pushed Ireland close, Cotter makes 15 changes to the squad from last week. There are nine changes amongst the forwards, with both lock Jonny Gray and back-row Ryan Wilson making their first appearance like Laidlaw. Two backs also make their first appearance in the warm up series, centre Mark Bennett and winger Tommy Seymour.

After missing the chance to captain his country last weekend, due to illness, lock Grant Gilchrist has recovered to take his place in the 25-man squad Cotter released seven players from his squad on Monday, and Saturday's game against Italy is the last match his team plays, before he has to name his final 31-man squad for the World Cup itself. Following that announcement, Scotland will play one final game, away to France, before opening their World Cup campaign against Japan on 23 September.
