The second semi-final of the National Rugby Championship will be played on Saturday at AAMI Park in Melbourne, and will feature the over riding favourites the Melbourne Rising, and their visitors from the West Coast, Perth Spirit.Rising completed dominated the qualifying process from start to finish, and were assured of their place in the semi-finals long before any other side.

Their points difference was +215, while the next best was the +49 of the runner-up, NSW Country Eagles Rising's opponents on Saturday, squeezed into the last four by the narrowest of margins.

They finished fourth in the table, with just three wins to their credit, but thanks to their ability to earn losing bonus points, they edged out the Greater Sydney Rams by just a single point.When the two sides met during the regular season, Perth gave Rising arguably their toughest 40 minutes of the tournament to date, trailing just 8-18 at the interval. However, the Melbourne side upped the tempo in the second half and ran out 44-24 winners at the hooter, scoring 7 tries to Perth's 3.

Melbourne Rising the outright National Rugby Championship leaders after three rounds, will host Perth Spirit to the AAMI Park in Melbourne on Thursday, in the first fixture of Round 4 of the tournament. The Melbourne Rising outfit really laid down their challenge to the rest of the teams in the competition in Round 3, when they not only took the unbeaten record of Brisbane City, but thrashed them to the extent of 79-18 in front of their own fans at Ballymore.

With three games of the regular season completed, Rising have some impressive stats to their name. They have scored the most points (179) by a considerable margin, have easily the biggest point’s differential, and have crossed the opposition's try line nearly twice as often as the next best teams. The visitors to AAMI Park on Thursday, the Perth Spirit, have started the season with a win and two losses, and sit in fifth position, just outside the play-off spots.

They come into the Melbourne fixture on the back of a disappointing result in Round 3, when they slipped to a 34-44 loss against the previously winless Sydney Rams in Adelaide, having run in three tries to one, and lead 21-10 at halftime.
