Benetton Treviso                          Cardiff Blues
Friday 4th November 19:15 GMT

Benetton Treviso, currently bottom of the RaboDirect PRO12 table, with just one win to their credit during the current campaign, will host the struggling Cardiff Blues at the Stadio di Monigo in Treviso on Friday Evening. Treviso's only win in the PRO12 this season, came in Round 4 at home against the Newport Gwent Dragons, who they defeated by 27-11. The other two matches that they have played on home soil in the tournament this season, have brought losses to Ulster and the Scarlets. The Blues started the PRO12 season in outstanding form, winning all of their first four fixtures, including away wins at Munster and the other competing Italian side, Zebre from Parma.

However, they have lost all three of their subsequent matches, since their visit to Parma in Round 4. They are now in seventh position in the table, eight points adrift of the leaders, Leinster. The Welsh Region will arrive in Italy, having lost just one of their last six away games in all tournaments, a 24-46 loss in the PRO12 at the Ospreys in Round 6. Although the Blues have the edge in head to head PRO12 meetings with Benetton Treviso, winning 8 and losing three of the 12 fixtures, they haven't won at the Stadio Monigo since March 2012.

With the 6-Nations continuing this weekend, and all the sides in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament lacking their international players, there is the potential for some surprise results. The Italians of Benetton Treviso will be hoping that one of these shocks might just occur at the Stadio Monigo on Saturday, when they host the Cardiff Blues in the PRO12. The Italians have played 19 games in all tournaments this season, and have lost each and every one of them. By coincidence, the last time that they enjoyed the sweet taste of success, was against the Blues, when they won by 40-24 back in February 2015. The Blues have had a disappointing campaign of their own, eliminated from the Challenge Cup at the Pool stage, and sitting in a lowly ninth position in the PRO12 table, 12 points adrift of Leinster who occupy the final play-off position.

However, the Blues are on a run of four consecutive wins in the PRO12. The last time they were beaten in the competition was in November, by fellow Welsh region, the Ospreys. If the Blues inflict further pain on Benetton Treviso, it will be the first time that they have won five games on the bounce since 2010.

Fridays Guinness PRO12 match at the Stadio Comunale di Monigo Stadium between the Italians of Benetton Treviso, and the Welsh visitors the Cardiff Blues, is of far greater importance to the home team, than it is to the visitors. Treviso, whose only win in their last four matches, came against the Ospreys in the Champions Cup on January 24th, may be in a lowly thirteenth position in the PRO12 table, but their target is to finish above their fellow countrymen from Zebre, in order to clinch the Italian position in next season's Champions Cup. They currently have a three point advantage over Zebre, who themselves face a tricky trip to the reigning champions Leinster in Dublin. A trip that is unlikely to see them pick up any points.

The Blues have had a disappointing RaboDirect PRO12 season, and are in tenth place following a sequence of results that has produced just a one win in the last four games, 11-9 against the Dragons on New Years Day, and they are well out of the running for a play-off place, or a place in the Champions Cup. If Benetton Treviso can clinch a vital win, it will be only the second time ever, that they have beaten the Blues, to go alongside their 26-17 victory in March 2013.

The Italians from Benetton Treviso may have lost their last three matches in the PRO12 competition, but they do at least have the consolation of having secured a losing bonus point in each of those loses. Last weekend's narrow 20-21 reverse against the Irishmen of Leinster, was only the second time that they have been defeated at home in the PRO12 in the past 12 months. Whilst they have the solid record of winning at least one league point from each of the last 11 games that they have played at their Stadio Monigo home. Cardiff Blues are probably the most inconsistent side in the PRO12, although that inconsistency has carried across to all competitions this season. They were beaten at Cardiff Arms Park by Zebre earlier in the season, the first ever win for the Italians in the RaboDirect PRO12 competition, and yet they managed to beat the current Heineken Cup holders, Toulon, in this season's competition.

The last time that the Cardiff Blues recorded an away victory in the PRO12 was at Murrayfield, against Edinburgh as long ago as 15 February. Although they can point to just one loss in nine matches played in Italy in all competitions. That loss came against Treviso in last season's PRO12 match in Italy.
