Cardiff Blues                          Edinburgh
Saturday 3rd September 18:35 GMT

Although they have an ordinary record in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament in recent seasons, the Cardiff Blues have few problems in getting their season off to a good start. They have lost just once in round 1 of the competition in the past six seasons. That solitary reverse came in 2013 when they travelled North to face the Glasgow Warriors. Although they only finished in seventh position last season, the Blues finished the campaign in fine style, with just a single loss in the last six fixtures. That defeat came against the Ospreys 27-40 on "Judgement Day" at the end of April.

Their only defeat for the Blues at the Arms Park since November, was inflicted by Irish Province Leinster in round 15. On Saturday, they will look to extend that unbeaten run with an eighth unbeaten fixture in succession against their Scottish visitors. Edinburgh's last taste of victory over the Blues being 28-13 at Murrayfield in November 2014. Edinburgh have beaten Munster in 2014 and Leinster in 2015 in the opening round of each of the past two seasons. If they want to make it three wins on the spin, they will have to record a first win in Cardiff since September 2012.

Edinburgh have recorded eight wins alongside their four defeats in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season, and are four points adrift of the table leaders, the Scarlets. However, Munster and Ulster are poised three points behind them with a game in hand, and their hold on a top four position at the moment looks quite fragile.

When the teams met earlier in the season at Murrayfield, the Scots won a relatively comfortable victory by 28-13, and victory on Sunday would complete their first season's double over the Welsh Region since the 2009/10 season. With Connacht playing Treviso at home in the latest round of fixtures, a game that they would expect to win, the Scots know how important a win is on Sunday, to keep them in the hunt for sixth position in the table at the end of the regular season.

Cardiff born, Cory Allen , the Wales U20 centre will make his first-ever start in the PRO12 , when Cardiff Blues host Edinburgh at the Arms Park on Sunday. Allen is called into the side after his impressive performance from the bench last week, when he scored a try. The youngster is one of three changes made by Cardiff Director of Rugby Phil Davies , as he seeks to get his team back to winning ways on their home ground. The other changes are in the forwards, as Gethin Jenkins makes his first league appearance for the Blues at Loosehead Prop, after returning from France. Lock Bradley Davies wins a recall to the starting line up, after serving a suspension. Flanker Josh Navidi is guaranteed to make his 50th appearance for the Cardiff Blues, while centre Dafydd Hewitt could make his 100th appearance in a Blues shirt, if he comes off of the replacements bench. Davies is looking for his side to be more clinical in taking their opportunities than they were away to Leinster in Ireland, when this was his major concern, though he was pleased with the side's general performance. Edinburgh's 27 year-old captain, Greig Laidlaw, makes a welcome return to the team, having recovered from a knee injury, that has kept him on the sidelines since the summer. Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons, has stated that he is delighted with the two scrum-halves in Sam [Hidlago-Clyne] and Sean [Kennedy], but that Laidlaw is able to bring a level of experience and leadership that only exposure to International rugby can bring, and Solomons believes that Laidlaw will make a huge impact on his side, as they seek to repeat last season's victory in Cardiff.
