The Cardiff Blues, who entertain Irish Province Munster, at the Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday in Round 17 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament, are still in the hunt for a top six finish in the table, and an automatic position in next season's Champions Cup. They are currently in seventh position, with six fixtures left in the regular season, just four points adrift of the Glasgow Warriors. A seventh placed finish would send them into a play-off with a Top 14 or a Premiership club for the final place in the top European tournament. Although they are chasing sixth spot, they are also having to fight off Connacht, the reigning Champions, who are three points behind the Welsh outfit, but have a game In hand.
Munster were beaten last weekend at home by the Scarlets 21-30, ending a run of nine straight victories in the Pro12. That result helped to contribute to the Irishmen's fall to third position in the table. However, they are a mere two points adrift of their great rivals Leinster who now head the table, and just one point behind the Ospreys. With a home semi-final in the play-offs, the reward for a top two finish, Munster will be anxious to get back to winning ways in the Welsh capital on Saturday.

Cardiff Blues and Munster meet at the Cardiff Arms Park on Friday Evening in a Guinness PRO12 fixture, that was originally scheduled for Round 12, but was postponed to allow re-arranged European matches to be played on that weekend instead. The Blues have managed just one win in their last four PRO12 outings, which even though it was played at the Arms Park, was still a surprise 23-13 win against Ulster. However, given their lowly standing of ninth in the PRO12 table, the Cardiff Blues do have a fine recent home record, having lost just once at the venue since last November, when they went down 13-14 to title chasing Leinster in late February.
Munster will be looking to make it three RaboDirect PRO12 wins on the trot in the Welsh capital on Friday, having previously disposed of Benetton Treviso fro Italy and Newport Gwent Dragons. The only defeat that they have suffered since the turn of the year, came on 19th February, when they were beaten by the defending Champions, the Glasgow warriors in Kilmarnock. Munster are currently in fifth position in the table, just four points adrift of fellow countrymen, Ulster, who are occupying the final play-off position. If they can extend their unbeaten run at the Arms Park, where they haven't lost since may 2009, they May well find themselves back in the vital top four by the end of the weekend.

Cardiff Blues who entertain Munster at the Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday evening, have made an extremely disappointing start to the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament this season. After six rounds of matches, they have recorded just a single victory, which came in the opening round against the Italians of Zebre, and languish in a lowly tenth place on the table, with just the two participating Italian sides below them. They will be buoyed by successive wins in the Challenge Cup over the past two weeks, although those wins were recorded in Cardiff Blues against Grenoble from France, who have lost every away game that they have played this season, and the Italian amateurs from Rovigo. The Blues have played the other three Irish Provinces already this season in the PRO12, with the best result being a come from behind draw with Connacht in Galway in Round 5.
Munster after an unsteady start to the PRO12 season, have now suffered just one loss in their last fixtures in all tournaments, a 14-19 reverse to table topping Ospreys at home to Ospreys in round 4. The Munstermen have won all three of their away matches this season in all competitions, but last time they played in wales, back in march, they lost at the Scarlets by 13-18.

The red machine from Munster rolls into Cardiff on Saturday evening, looking to cement their place at the top of the PRO12 table, against a Cardiff Blues side that can only be described as inconsistent this season. Blues have had the high of a Heineken Cup victory over the reigning cup holders, Toulon, while they can also show on their PRO12 record, a defeat by Zebre from Italy, who until they lowered the Blues colors at the Arms Park, had never previously managed a win in the PRO12 competition. The last four RaboDirect PRO12 matches in which the Blues have been involved in, have all been won by the home team on the day, though it is difficult to see that sequence continuing when they play the table topping Munster this weekend. Munster have suffered just a single defeat from their last six matches in all competitions, a 23-29 reverse to Edinburgh at Murrayfield in the Heineken Cup in October.
The men from Munster have already won two games against Welsh regions this season, though the Blues did record a surprise victory in Cork last January by 17-6, which brought to an end, a run that had seen Munster beat the Blues five times on the trot. However, the Irish province hasn’t lost to the Blues in Wales since 2010.
