Connacht                          Glasgow
Saturday 3rd September 16:15 GMT

The two sides that have claimed the RaboDirect PRO12 in the past two seasons, Connacht and the Glasgow warriors, meet each other in Round 1 of the new season at the Galway Sportsground in Galway on Saturday. Connacht who caused quite a shock by finishing at the top of the regular season table, and then went on to secure a first ever Pro12 title, will be looking to start the defence of their crown, with a sixth opening round victory in the past seven seasons. The men from the far west of Ireland, suffered just a solitary defeat on home soil in all competitions last season. That reverse was at the hands of their fellow Irishmen, Ulster, who were victorious on Boxing Day in the Pro12.

The Warriors who were Champions in 2014/2015, finished third in the table last season, but ended the campaign with successive defeats, both at the Sportsground against Saturday's opponents. Firstly in Round 22, and then in the play-off semi-final. Strangely, prior to those results, Connacht had lost eight matches on the bounce against the Warriors. The Warriors have not lost three successive Pro12 fixtures for four years. Their last success was however, a record one, when they recorded a 70-10 win at the Scotstoun against the hapless Italians from Zebre.

The first semi-final of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament will take place on Saturday at the Galway Sportsground in Galway, between Connacht and the reigning PRO12 Champions, the Glasgow Warriors. Victory over the Warriors in Galway in the last match of the regular season, propelled Connacht into second position in the table, and secured a home fixture in the last four. The Sportsground becoming the eight different venue at which a PRO12 play-off will have taken place. Connacht will be hoping that the amazing statistic that shows that no away side has ever yet managed to win a PRO12 play-off match, continues following their clash with their Scottish visitors.

Saturday will be the first time that the Irish Province have contested a play-off fixture, and they go into the game with plenty of momentum on their own ground, having been beaten just once on home soil in any competition this season. A 3-10 loss to Ulster on Boxing Day. The Glasgow Warriors are attempting to become only the second ever side, Leinster were the first in 2014, to retain the PRO12 title. Connacht's victory over the Warriors in Round 22, brought an end to a run of nine successive victories for the Scots, and was the first time that they had defeated the Scottish outfit in nine attempts.

The top two sides in the RaboDirect PRO12 with just one round of the regular season remaining, go head to head at the Galway Sportsground in Galway on Saturday, when Connacht and the Glasgow Warriors face each other. The reigning Champions, the Warriors currently head the table, with a two point advantage over their hosts. The winner of the weekend's fixture will be guaranteed a home match in the play-off semi-finals, while the losers will be dependant on results elsewhere, to see if they will play at home or away in the last four.

Although the Irish Province have lost three of their last four matches in all tournaments, all three of those defeats have come away from home. At the Sportsground, they have only been beaten on one occasion during the current season, when they fell to fellow Irish Province Ulster on Boxing Day. The Glasgow Warriors had not headed the table at any time this season until last weekend, when they thrashed the Italians of Zebre by 70-10, which was a record victory for the Scots in the PRO12. Since Ulster narrowly defeated them in Belfast on 12th February, the Warriors have embarked on a run of nine straight wins in the PRO12. If they extend that run to 10 victories on Saturday, it will be a ninth successive win against Connacht. The last time that the Irishmen enjoyed a win against the Scots was in February 2011, when they won in Galway by 37-8.

Masses to play for at the Galway Sportsground in Galway on Saturday, when Connacht welcome the Glasgow Warriors to the West of Ireland. With Glasgow heading the table, and looking to secure a top two finish to guarantee a home semi-final in the post-season RaboDirect PRO12 play-offs. While Connacht are in a three way battle with the Scarlets and Edinburgh for the final automatic place into the Champions Cup next season. Back on 1st March, Connacht trounced Benetton Treviso by 53-5 on their own soil, but since then they have suffered a rapid downward spiral, that has seen them lose four successive matches in all competitions. In contrast, the Glasgow Warriors have lost just a single PRO12 match in the last six played, when they were beaten by second placed Munster in Cork by 10-22 in Round 16. Not only are they enjoying a winning streak, but they have also secured a try-scoring bonus point in each of their last three outings.

Although the Warriors are struggling away from their own ground, with just one win in the last seven attempts, they have been beaten by Connacht since February 2011, with the last seven fixtures between the sides producing six wins for the Scots and a solitary draw.

Connacht will feel somewhat aggrieved that they are propping up the PRO12 table, having played so well last weekend in Dublin against Leinster, and having led their Irish rivals until the last few minutes of the game, when the home side snatched victory from their grasp. The fact that this is the first time that Connacht has occupied the bottom spot in the RaboDirect PRO12 table since season 2005/06 will be of little consolation to the side from the West of Ireland. Connacht who were once so difficult to defeat at the Sports ground in Galway, have recorded just a single home victory since March, and that came against the Italians of Zebre by 25-16 in round one of this season's tournament. The Glasgow Warriors have made a start to the season that even their most staunch of supporters would only have dreamed of, but couldn't have any real expectations. Last Friday, saw them slip to their first PRO12 defeat of the season, when they were downed by the giants from Munster. In fact, this was their first reversal in regular season play, since April.

The Warriors will look to maintain their unbeaten away record this season, having won all three games that they have played away from Galway in the PRO12 this season, and they have been successful on two of their last three visits to Ireland. While Connacht has failed to beat Glasgow since they clashed at the Galway Sports ground in February 2011.

Galway is the venue this week in the RaboDirect Pro12 between Connacht and Glasgow. This match will be on Saturday, February 18th at 17:30 local time, which is also the game time GMT. Connacht takes tenth place right now and they have been able to play fourteen games this season so far. Unfortunately only three of those resulted in a win and they have eleven losses. They have just eighteen points at the moment. Glasgow Warriors is in third with fourteen games played as well, but their eight wins and two draws give them 39 points.
