Murrayfield in Edinburgh plays host to the Grand Final of the RaboDirect PRO12 Tournament on Saturday Evening. The climax of the competition will see two Irish Provinces facing each other, with the underdogs from the West of the Emerald Isle, Connacht, taking on the Dublin based Leinster. Leinster will be competing in their ninth PRO12 final, having won on four previous occasions, the last time being in 2014 when they defeated the Glasgow Warriors. While for Connacht, Saturday will be their first ever appearance in a major final. The Sides finished first and second in the regular season table, both accumulating 73 points, but Leinster claiming top spot, thanks to their recording one win more than Connacht.

Connacht go into the Final having lost only one of their last four matches, a surprise 21-22 defeat in Italy against Benetton Treviso. They have a fine recent record at Murrayfield, having won on three of their last four appearances there. Leinster have been in similarly good form at the back end of the campaign. They have suffered just one reverse in the last five matches of the season, a heavy 6-30 defeat in Belfast to Ulster in Round 21 of the PRO12. Like Connacht, Leinster have also won on three of their last four visits to Saturday's venue. They will also have fond memories of the Stadium on a Cup Final day, having beaten the Leicester Tigers in 2009 to take the Champions Cup.

The top two sides in the RaboDirect PRO12 table meet head on at The Sportsground in Galway on Saturday, with Connacht who head the ladder a point ahead of their visitors fro Dublin, Leinster. The team from the West of Ireland are the in form side in the tournament, having won their last six fixtures in all competitions, including five on the spin in the PRO12. Leinster's own form is nearly as impressive as Saturday's opponents. A run of four successive victories in the tournament came to an end last weekend, when they were beaten in Glasgow by the Warriors.

Although both sides already look shoe ins for the post-season play-offs, it is vital to finish in the top two at the end of the regular season, in order to secure a home match in the semi-finals. The winners of this weekend's clash will take a giant stride towards accomplishing that goal. Connacht have only suffered one loss in front of their own fans at the Sportsground this season in any competition, a 3-10 reverse on Boxing Day against Ulster. However, they don't have a good record against Leinster, and have won just one of the last six meetings of the Provinces.

Connacht are potentially about to enter unchartered territory when they host fellow Irish Province and current PRO12 champions Leinster at The Sportsground in Galway on Friday evening in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament. The minnows of Irish Provincial rugby have made an impressive start to the new season with two victories against Newport Gwent Dragons and Edinburgh, but they have never previously started a season with three successive wins. However, Connacht has a history of struggling against the other Irish Provinces, and are on a run that has seen them lose their last 11 contests with their fellow countrymen. Their last success coming in September 2012, when they beat Friday's opponents. The only defeat that the champions have suffered in their last seven PRO12 contests came in Round 1, when the Glasgow Warriors avenged last season's final defeat, beating the Irishmen in a thrilling game 22-20.

Since they lost away to Munster last October, Leinster have played six fixtures against Irish sides, and have been successful in each game, and although they have an average record in Galway in recent times, with three defeats in their last six visits, it would be something of a surprise if Connacht gained a fourth win.

Connacht recorded just their second victory in this season's RaboDirect PRO12 tournament on the Saturday before Christmas, when they defeated the Newport Gwent Dragons in Galway by 14-11. Their first success in the competition since round 1. They will, therefore, be looking to win back to back games at the Sports ground, for the first time since last March, when they entertain their fellow Irishmen from Leinster on Saturday evening. With Leinster, who have suffered just a single defeat in their last six PRO12 matches, away to Edinburgh by 6-11 in round 10, and sitting in second place on the league table, the visitors, it seems quite unlikely that Connacht will record a season's third win, especially as you have to go back to September 2012 to find the last time that the home team beat another Irish Province, though by coincidence, that was the last time that Leinster visited Galway.

That stunning 34-6 victory in 2012, was however, the only success for Connacht against Saturday's visitors from the last seven clashed between the two sides. Leinster will be keen to secure at least a match victory, as defeat could see them slip from second in the table, to fifth and outside the play-off positions, if the other results this weekend also go against them; such is the situation at the top of the table at present.
