Saturday 30th April 16:00 GMT

The Scarlets spent much of the season vying for top spot in the RaboDirect PRO12 regular season table. But successive defeats to the Cardiff Blues and the Glasgow Warriors has seen them slip down to fifth position, and struggling to secure a post-season play-off spot. On Saturday they face the Newport Gwent Dragons at the Principality Stadium, in the second of the 'Judgement Day' fixtures. The Dragons arriving for the match on the back of a run of eight successive defeats, the worst run in their history. Their last victory coming in Round 13 against Leinster at Rodney Parade.

If the Dragons are to end that run of losses, they will have to register a first win at the Principality, where they have lost all three of their appearances. Should the Scarlets win Saturday's contest, they will guarantee themselves a place in next season's Champions Cup, as the top finishing Welsh Region in the table. Although victory will not guarantee them a play-off spot. The Scarlets have made four trips to the Principality Stadium, where they have won on three occasions, the only reverse being a 13-17 loss to the Blues at "Judgment Day II". The Dragons have to go back to September 2013 for their last win against the Scarlets, 23-16 at Rodney Parade.

The Dragons with little but pride to play for when they face the Scarlets on “Judgement Day” at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, are faced with the huge task of lifting themselves after the disappointment of their European semi-final loss against Edinburgh last weekend. The Dragons will have the incentive of making a little piece of history for the region if they can beat their rivals from West Wales, as it would be a fourth successive Guinness RaboDirect PRO12 victory, something that they have not done for a decade. However, the Scarlets are involved in a titanic three way battle for the final automatic Champions Cup place for next season, with Connacht and Edinburgh.

The Dragons record in recent times against the Scarlets has been woeful, with a 23-16 at Rodney Parade in 2013, the only time that they have tasted success in the past 13 PRO12 contest between the two regions. They will find no solace in their record at the Millennium Stadium, where they have played twice and lost on both occasions, to Saturday’s opponents in 2013 and the Ospreys last season. Scarlets have fared slightly better at the home of Welsh rugby, winning on two of their three trips.
