Edinburgh                          Scarlets
Friday 9th September 18:35 GMT

Edinburgh and the Scarlets who meet on Friday Evening in Round 2 of the Guinness PRO12 tournament at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, are both seeking their first point of the new season. The Scottish side travelled to Wales to face the Blues in the opening round of the competition, and fell to a 16-34 loss, their fourth successive defeat in the PRO12. The Scarlets couldn't make home advantage pay in Round 1, as they slipped to a disappointing 13-23 defeat to Munster. Edinburgh have lost two of the last three matches that they have played at Murrayfield, 23-28 to the eventual Champions Connacht in March, and then 17-21 to the Blues in May.

Scarlets loss to Munster, leaves them with just a single win in the last five RaboDirect PRO12 games that they have played. A 34-20 success against the Dragons at the Principality Stadium, on "Judgement Day" in April. Edinburgh hold the slenderest of leads over the Scarlets in head to heads between the teams, having won 13 and drawn one of the 26 fixtures between them. If the Welsh Region are unable to improve on their recent record against Friday's hosts, that has seen them win just one of the last four encounters, it will be the first time in the Scarlets history that they have started the PRO12 with two defeats.

Edinburgh will be delighted to be returning to the familiar surrounds of Murrayfield on Sunday, when the Scarlets will be the visitors in the Guinness PRO12. The Scottish side have played their last four games in all tournaments away from home, and have suffered defeat in each and every one of them. As a consequence, they have slipped down to sixth position in the PRO12 table, eight points adrift of the play-off positions. In contrast to their struggles on the road, Edinburgh have suffered just a solitary loss at Murrayfield this season in any tournament. A narrow 14-16 defeat to Munster in Round 7 of the PRO12.

The Scarlets have won each of their last two PRO12 fixtures by a single point, at home to Edinburgh by 22-12, and then last weekend in Belfast they snatched a 21-20 win against Ulster. Completing a season's double against Edinburgh on Sunday, would give Scarlets successive away wins in the RaboDirect PRO12 for the first time since October. Recent matches between the two sides have very much gone the way of the Scarlets, who have only lost once at Murrayfield since 2010, when they went down 23-26 in march 2012. While Edinburgh's only win against the Scarlets in the last seven attempts came at the Parc y Scarlets in March 2015.

Edinburgh's stunning opening day Guinness PRO12 victory at Thomond Park against Munster now looks as though it was a false dawn, as they have since gone on to lose a narrow home defeat to another Irish Province, Connacht, and last week hit a new low, with a 62-13 mauling at the hands of the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea. Those defeats leave the Scottish side with the Munster result as their only success from their last eight PRO12 fixtures, as they prepare to welcome the Scarlets to Murrayfield on Friday evening. Home comforts seem to offer little advantage to the Scots, who have not won a PRO12 home match in 2014. The last time that they tasted success on their own soil, was back on 20th December last year, when they defeated Leinster who went on to become the champions.

The Scarlets have had something of a mixed bag of performances and results to start the season, having drawn on the opening day with Ulster 32-32, after leading by 14 points, they were soundly beaten at the RDS by the reigning champions Leinster, before opening their 2014/15 winning account by disposing of Benetton Treviso 43-0 last weekend.
