Friday 28th October 18:35 GMT

Edinburgh who meet the Italians of Zebre at Murrayfield Stadium in Round 7 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament on Friday Evening, will be looking to continue the form that they have shown in the Challenge Cup, into the "domestic" competition, where they have struggled for results this season. The Scots are down in ninth position in the PRO12 table, with just two wins and nine points to their credit. Those victories were both recorded at Murrayfield, against the Scarlets and Benetton Treviso, Leinster are the only side to defeat them on home soil in any competition this season.

Edinburgh have lost just one of their last eight meetings with Italian opposition, a 11-19 reverse in Parma to Zebre in October 2015. Overall, Edinburgh have won five of the eight previous fixtures between the two sides. Although the Italians have won three of the last five games between the teams, all three wins occurring at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi. Zebre are currently rock bottom of the PRO12 table, and are the only team in the tournament still to enjoy the taste of victory this season. The last win they registered in the PRO12 was against the Dragons in Round 22 last season. If the Italian outfit spring a surprise on Friday, it will be their first win on the road, since they travelled to Sixways and defeated Worcester Warriors in the Challenge Cup. back in January of this year.

Edinburgh, who welcome the Italians fro Parma, Zebre, to Murrayfield Stadium on Friday Evening, may still hold out slim hopes of Guinness PRO12 glory this season, as they have an outside chance of stealing into the top four positions, and advancing to the post-season play-offs, but their main target must be to claim a top six finish in the table. Last weekend's one point victory at the Dragons has kept Edinburgh in seventh position in the PRO12 table, with just four rounds of the regular season remaining. Just five points behind Munster who currently hold the fourth and final play-off position.

Edinburgh have the edge overall on their visitors, with four wins to Zebre's three, but all of those successes by the Italian side have come in the last four Meetings between the two outfits, including a 19-11 victory in the earlier RaboDirect PRO12 meeting this season, back in late October. Zebre's aim for the final weeks of the season, is to stay ahead of fellow countrymen, Benetton Treviso, and claim the Champions Cup place that is on offer to the highest finishing Italian team. Zebre currently have just a three point advantage. However, it appears unlikely that Friday's fixture will assist them in that aim, as they have lost six straight PRO12 games, picking up just one bonus point during that sequence, and have lost on all six previous visits to Scotland.

Edinburgh are on a high after last weekends Challenge Cup semi-final victory against the Newport Gwent Dragons, which saw them become the first Scottish side to ever reach a European final. They will meet Gloucester at the Twickenham Stoop Stadium on the May Bank Holiday weekend. However, on Friday they must get back to the bread and butter of the Guinness PRO12 tournament, where they are embroiled in a frantic three way battle with Connacht and the Scarlets for the final qualifying place to next season's Champions Cup. The Scots who trail their rivals by just one point with three matches remaining, face the Italians of Zebre at Murrayfield this weekend, and will be confident of victory over the team at the foot of the RaboDirect PRO12 table. However, having lost in Parma earlier in the season, one of only three wins for the Italians in this season's tournament, the Scottish side will be wary of the threat their visitors might pose.

However, the rare victories enjoyed by Zebre over the course of their three seasons of participation have in the main come in Italy, with just a solitary win in Cardiff against the Blues back in September 2013 being the only taste of success on the road.

Edinburgh faces Italian opposition for the second consecutive week in the PRO12 at Murrayfield on Friday Evening, when the visitors are Zebre. Having played and beaten Benetton Treviso last Friday at the same venue. The Scots have a solid record in Edinburgh, and have won four of their last five home fixtures in all competitions. The highlight of which, was a Heineken Cup victory over the might men of Munster. If Zebre upset all the odds on Friday, they will become only the second Italian victors at the famous home of Scottish rugby. The last time a team of their countrymen was successful on the ground was in October 2012, when Treviso defeated the home side. Zebre now in their second season of RaboDirect PRO12 action, and proving much more competitive than they were in their debut season, when they failed to win a single game, came within a whisker of a second win in the current campaign last weekend in Italy, when they led the Scarlets by 16-13 well into injury time, when up stepped Welsh international Rhys Priestland to kick an injury time penalty, to level the scores at 16-16.

After just 6 rounds of PRO12 action, Zebre have already accumulated seven league points, a total that leaves them just three shy of their total for the whole of the 2012/13 season. Both matches last season were won by the Scottish team, although the match in Parma in March was a tight affair, with Edinburgh squeezing home by just two points.
