Friday 28th October 18:35 GMT

Glasgow Warriors were the unfortunate side that was on the end of the outpouring of emotion in Limerick last weekend, as Champions Cup opponents Munster, said farewell to their much loved coach Anthony Foley. Defeat at Thomond Park brought an end to a run of three straight victories for the Scots in all tournaments, including their last two in the Guinness PRO12. On Friday Evening, they resume PRO12 duties against Benetton Treviso from Italy, in what is only their third home fixture in the competition this season. The previous two matches at the Scotstoun ended in a win against Leinster and defeat against the table topping Ulster.

The 17-22 reverse against the Ulstermen in Round 4, was the only loss that the Glasgow Warriors have suffered at Friday's venue since September of 2015. The Warriors have won an amazing 20 successive games against Italian opposition. The last defeat being against Treviso, way back in September 2011, when they were playing home games at Firhill. That success for Benetton, was one of just two that they have recorded in matches against the Warriors in the RaboDirect PRO12, since when the Warriors have won all nine meetings in all competitions. Treviso have registered just a single victory this season, to set alongside five defeats in the PRO12. That win was against the Dragons by 27-11 in Italy in Round 4.

The reigning Guinness PRO12 Champions, Glasgow Warriors, will be hoping to continue their climb up the table on Friday, when they welcome bottom of the table, Benetton Treviso, to the Scotstoun Stadium in Round 8 of this seasons tournament. Treviso have lost all seven matches in this season's RaboDirect PRO12, which has extended their losing sequence in the tournament to 16 matches. The last time they avoided defeat, was against the Cardiff Blues, who they defeated at the Stadio Monigo in February. They have to go all the way back to May 2013 to find the last occasion that they managed to win outside of Italy, when they beat the Scarlets in west Wales.

The Warriors have won the last seven meetings between themselves and Treviso. A sequence that stretches back to September 2011, when the Italians triumphed at Firhill. In total, Glasgow Warriors have now won 15 successive matches against Italian opposition. After losing in Dublin against Leinster in Round 5, the Warriors have picked up maximum points from successive wins the Ospreys and Cardiff Blues. Results that have helped lift the Champions to sixth position in the table. Neither side managed a win during the two week European Champions Cup break. Treviso were beaten by Munster and the Leicester Tigers, while the Warriors were beaten at home by the Northampton Saints.

Not only have last season's RaboDirect PRO12 runner-up, Glasgow Warriors, won five of their six fixtures in this season's tournament, which places them in second place in the table to the Ospreys after six rounds, but they have also won their opening two matches in the Champions Cup. The only defeat that the Scottish side has suffered in the current campaign, came in their last PRO12 outing, when they were defeated in Belfast by Ulster 9-29. Since then, they have beaten Bath of the Aviva Premiership and Montpellier of the Top 14 in the Champions Cup, to top their qualifying Pool. On Friday the Warriors welcome the Italians of Benetton Treviso to the Scotstoun Stadium in the PRO12, where they are unbeaten since Toulon won there in the European Cup in January.

Treviso have lost 11 straight games in all tournaments, since they last tasted success against the Newport Gwent Dragons at Stadio Monigo in round 19 last season. The last time that the Italians managed to win away from home was in the final game of the 2012/13 season, when they defeated the Scarlets in Wales. The last six contests between the two sides have all gone the way of the Scots, with Treviso's last win coming by 15-13 at Firhill on 23rd September 2011.

The Glasgow Warriors will make up one of the games in hand that they have on the four teams above them in the RaboDirect PRO12 competition, when they play the Italians from Treviso on Friday evening at the Scotstoun Stadium. The game having been the victim of the weather when it was originally scheduled back on 20th December. Last weekend's vital victory against the Ospreys, has left the Warriors on the brink of breaking into the top four in the table, a position that would give them a place in the post-season play-offs. Victory against the Italians will lift the Warriors above the Ospreys and with still a further game in hand, and only four rounds of regular season matches left to play. Treviso ended a six game losing streak last weekend, when they defeated the Warriors Scottish rivals, Edinburgh, by 20-16. A victory that kept them above their rivals Zebre, which will give them a qualifying place in next season's European Cup, if they can just keep their noses ahead of the team from Parma.

If Benetton Treviso pulls off a shock win on Friday, it will be their first back to back victories in the PRO12 since December 2012, which isn't a great shock when it is considered that they have won only once on the road in the tournament since that date, a 41-17 wins at the Scarlets last May. Treviso has never won at the Scotstoun, their only success on Glasgow soil, coming at Firhill in September 2011, and they have lost their last three clashes with the Scottish outfit.

Glasgow Warriors made an outstanding start to this season RaboDirect PRO12 campaign, to the extent that despite losing two of their last four matches in the competition, they are still in third place in the table. To those two recent PRO12 defeats, can be added two defeats over the past fortnight, by the Cardiff Blues in the Heineken Cup, effectively ending their interest in Europe for another season. The Glasgow Warriors had made their Scotstoun home a formidable fortress, with ten successive victories there, between December 2012 and October 2013, however they have now lost their last three games at home in all tournaments. They will be confident of getting back to winning ways on their home turf on Friday evening against a Treviso side that has suffered two heavy defeats in the last two weeks against Ulster in the Heineken Cup, and is a lowly tenth place in the PRO12 table. The Scottish side hasn’t been beaten by an Italian side, since Treviso themselves won at Firhill by 15-13 in September 2011.

Treviso haven't won in the PRO12 since they beat Connacht at the Stadio Monigo 23-3 in round 5, although they did manage a 26-all draw against the Blues at home in their game in the competition. However, on the road, the Italians have fared even worse, with just a single victory throughout 2013, against the Scarlets 41-17 at the end of last season.
