The reigning Guinness PRO12 Champions, the Glasgow Warriors, were finally beaten at their own Scotstoun Stadium last weekend, by the Scarlets from Wales, ending a run of 20 consecutive wins at the venue. On Friday, Connacht are the visitors to the Scotstoun, arriving with a win in Round 1 under their belt.

By the end of last week’s match, the Scarlets were down to 11 men, but still managed to hold out against a determined Warriors outfit. They will be seeking to avoid successive home defeats in the RaboDirect PRO12 for the first time since November 2013.

Connacht started the season with a home match against the Dragons, who they beat by 29-23, but arrive in Glasgow with a woeful record on against the Warriors. They haven’t won in Glasgow since September 2010, when the game was played at Firhill Arena, and have lost the last seven games between the sides, both home and away. The Irish Province have managed to win twice in Scotland since the victory at Firhill, both coming at Murrayfield against Edinburgh. If Connacht do spring a surprise and inflict another defeat on the Champions, then it will be the first time that the men from Galway have won successive PRO12 games since March.

After three weeks of Guinness PRO12 competition in the current season, only three sides have 100% winning records. On Friday evening at the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, at  least one of those teams will lose their perfect winning start, as the Glasgow Warriors warriors play host to the Irishmen from Connacht.

Glasgow have continued the fine form with which they finished last season, and which ultimately saw them qualify for, but lose the Grand Final at the RDS against the reigning champions, Leinster. The three wins this season, mean that the Warriors have now lost just one of their last 13 RaboDirect PRO12 matches: The final against Leinster, and they have not lost at Scotstoun in 2014, the Dragons being the last visitors to triumph at the ground, back in November 2013.

Traditionally the poor relations of Irish Provincial rugby, Connacht have been the surprise package during the early weeks of the PRO12 tournament. They have made their best start to a season since the league went home and away in 2003/04. The Irishmen have already travelled to Scotland this season, when they defeated Edinburgh in Round 2. However, to defend their 100% record at the expense of the Warriors own record, they will need to beat the Scots for the first time since early 2011, and for only the second time in Glasgow since 2003.

Glasgow warriors will be hoping for better luck at the Scotstoun Stadium on Sunday, when they are scheduled to entertain the Irishmen of Connacht in the RaboDirect PRO12. Their last two scheduled fixtures in the tournament have both been postponed as a result of foul weather.

Those postponements have led to the Warriors dropping to fifth position in the table, and out of the play-off positions. However, if they win those matches in hand on the sides above them, they could leap to the very top of the table. While Glasgow Warriors are on a run that has seen them win three of their last four home games against Irish Provinces, they have failed to record a victory at Scotstoun since they beat Exeter Chiefs in the Heineken Cup 20-16 back on 20th October.

Connacht who currently sits in bottom place in the table has won just once since the opening round of games at the beginning of September. A narrow 14-11 home success against the Newport Gwent Dragons in round 10. They have to go back to last season, and 12 April to find their last away victory, when they won at Murrayfield 32-24 against Edinburgh, and they have yet to win at Scotstoun, their only away wins against the Warriors coming at Hughenden in September 2003 and Firhill in September 2010.
