Friday 25th November 19:35 GMT

Fourth placed Glasgow Warriors welcome the third placed Ospreys from Wales to the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow on Friday Evening, in Round 9 of the Guinness PRO12 tournament. The two sides have identical records, having won five and lost three of their eight fixtures in the competition to date. The Ospreys having a significantly better points difference at present. The Warriors were comprehensively beaten at the Scarlets in Round 8 by 3-27, bringing to an end a run of three straight victories in the PRO12. In truth those three wins were recorded against the three bottom sides at the time in the table, the Italians of Zebre and Benetton Treviso, and the Newport Gwent Dragons.

The Warriors only home loss in the three fixtures that they have played at the Scotstoun in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season was in Round 4, when Ulster were the visitors and triumphed by 22-17. All three of the Swansea Ospreys defeats in the PRO12 this season have come on the road, and have all been on Irish soil, at Leinster and Ulster, and most recently by a crushing 0-33 at Munster. In their first away game of the season in Round 2, they stunned the reigning Champions Connacht in Galway, winning by 32-11.

The reigning Guinness PRO12 Champions, Glasgow Warriors, will be hoping that they can use home advantage at the Scotstoun Stadium on Sunday, to help them close the gap on the sides above them in the table, following the stuttering start to the defence of their title. The Warriors have won just two of their five fixtures, and sit in seventh position in the table. Although with much of the first five rounds of the tournament being played when the competing sides were without many of their first choice XVs due to World Cup requirements, the table may yet change radically in the weeks to come. The Warriors whose only defeat at the Scotstoun in the last 12 games at the venue, came against the Scarlets in the opening round of this season's tournament, host the Swansea Ospreys this weekend,

The Welsh Region have won just once in their last six RaboDirect PRO12 matches, a narrow 25-22 success in Italy against Treviso on 17th October. The Welshmen are tenth on the table with six points, while Treviso are rock bottom with just four points, from a solitary win. Although the Ospreys beat the Warriors the last time they met, at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea in May, they have managed just a single win from their last dozen trips to Scotland, and their last success over the Warriors north of Hadrian's Wall was way back in 2009.

Ospreys surprise loss away to Edinburgh last weekend, saw them slip from the top of the table down to third place. On Saturday, they face another Scottish outfit, the Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium. The Warriors impressive 50 point win in Italy against Zebre in the last round, allowed them to replace Saturday's visitors at the head of the table. Defending a 15 game winning streak at the Scotstoun in the RaboDirect PRO12, the Warriors also have an impressive record against the Ospreys in recent encounters. The last six matches have all gone the way of the Scots, with the Ospreys not tasting victory since the March 2011 fixture at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea, when they won 37-6. To find a win on the Warriors soil, the Welsh Region have to go back to September 2009, when they won at Firhill.

Scotland generally is not a happy hunting ground for the Swansea Ospreys, who have won only one of their ten matches in the country since 2009, when they squeezed a 15-14 victory against Edinburgh at Murrayfield. With both sides almost assured of Champions Cup qualification for next season, and with no European competition to distract for the rest of the season, their target has to be the grand final in Belfast at the end of the season, and Saturday's outcome may well have a massive bearing on who will make it to the big occasion.

It appears almost certain that the top three spots in the RaboDirect PRO12 table are now secure, in the hands of the Irish trio of Provinces, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, with the fourth and final post-season play-off spot, coming down to a straight fight between The Scots of Glasgow and the Welshmen from the Ospreys. Glasgow Warriors currently trail the Ospreys by four points, but have two games in hand, and look favorites to secure the fourth position, especially as they entertain their rivals on Friday evening at the Scotstoun, where they have won their last two matches. Glasgow's biggest weakness however, is their inability to score tries, and they have not managed to score more than two tries in any game this season, but on Friday they play a side that has lost four consecutive matches away from home, and have not won outside of Wales since last September, when they beat Connacht in Galway.

Since 2009, the Swansea Ospreys have played eight games in Scotland, and recorded only a single victory, which came at Murrayfield against Edinburgh by 15-14 in February 2012, and they haven't won an away match against Glasgow since September 2009, when they were victorious at Firhill.
