Saturday 29th October 16:15 GMT

Leinster will put their 18 match unbeaten home record in the RaboDirect PRO12 on the line at the RDS on Saturday, when they face the reigning Champions Connacht in Round 7 of this season's tournament. That 18 game run included 16 straight victories, and they have only ever been beaten on two previous occasions at the RDS by fellow Irish Provinces. Munster were the first to beat them at the venue in September 2008 and Ulster the most recent, which was back in March 2013.

Connacht began their defence of the PRO12 title with three successive defeats, but have won their two most recent outings, at home to Edinburgh and Ulster. The latter result ending Ulster's unbeaten start to the season. They have also won their opening two fixtures in the Champions Cup, giving them a run of four successive wins ahead of Saturday's trip to Dublin. Although Connacht have not enjoyed victory in Dublin since they recorded a 26-23 success at Donnybrook in September 2002, they have beaten Leinster in their last two encounters, including last season's Grand Final in Edinburgh. If they manage a first ever win at the RDS on Saturday, it will be the first ever time that they have registered three successive wins against their fellow countrymen since they first started playing each other in 1931.

The Irish derby at the RDS on Friday between Leinster and Connacht, sees the third placed team in the Guinness PRO12 table, play host to the side sitting one place above them in second position. Leinster claimed a memorable 24-7 victory against Munster at Thomond Park last Sunday, their fifth successive win in the PRO12, a result that lifted them to third. The Dublin based side's PRO12 form being in stark contrast to that they are displaying in the Champions Cup this season, where they have played and lost four times.

Leinster will be looking to maintain their 100% winning record at the RDS during the current campaign, having won all five games in the RaboDirect PRO12 that they have played there. The only time they tasted defeat at the venue in the tournament since March 2013, was back in February, when the Newport Gwent Dragons recorded a surprise victory. Connacht missed the chance to regain top spot in the table last weekend, when they suffered a second successive defeat, this time at home to the irishmen from Ulster. If they want to at least retain second position, or indeed move back to the top, if the Scarlets slip up at the Blues, they will need to register their first ever win at the RDS, having lost all eight fixtures they have contested at the venue. The only time that they have managed to register a victory in Dublin since 1985, coming at Donnybrook in 2002.

Reigning RaboDirect PRO12 champions, Leinster, have not been the irresistible force of previous season's, either in the PRO12 tournament or the Champions Cup during the current campaign. On Friday they will host fellow Irishmen Connacht to the RDS, the team that sits just one place and one point behind them in the table.

If Connacht pull off a victory on Friday, they will secure their first ever league double over the Dubliners, having won the first encounter of the season between the two sides, back in Round 3 in Galway. The home side squeezed home 10-9, in what was a thriller, if not a classic encounter. However, the men from Galway will have to win in the Irish Capital for only the second time since 1985, their last success coming when they won by 26-23 at Donnybrook over  a decade ago. They have never yet won at the RDS. Not that Connacht are alone in having a poor record at the RDS, a venue where Leinster have won 18 consecutive matches, since they drew 29-29 against the Ospreys in Round 2 of last season's PRO12 competition. Both sides are in good form coming into the match, with Leinster beaten just once in their last eight matches, against Harlequins at the Stoop in the Champions Cup, and Connacht recording four successive wins in all tournaments.

Connacht will bid to become the first team to lower Leinster's colors at the RDS since another Irish province, Ulster, did so, back in March this year, when they are the visitors to Dublin on Saturday Evening. Although they have only tasted defeat once in the last four matches played in all competitions, the Leinstermen were defeated on the only occasion that they have squared up to a fellow Irish province this season, a 15-19 away loss to Munster in round 5.

Connacht managed to break a run of five consecutive losses in all tournaments, when last weekend they traveled to Italy for a Heineken Cup tie, and defeated Zebre in Parma, by an emphatic 33-6 score line. Connacht haven't managed to win on their RaboDirect PRO12 travels since last April, when they recorded a victory over Edinburgh at Murrayfield by 32-24, and their record against their fellow Irishmen, doesn't make for much better reading, than their away form. They have lost the last six matches in which they have faced an Irish Province, and have not won an away match against any of the other three Provinces, since September 2002, when they beat Leinster 26-23 at Donnybrook. It will be a major shock if Connacht adds to their only victory in the last six fixtures with Leinster, a 34-6 in Galway last September.
