Leinster have what looks an unassailable 10 point buffer between themselves and the fifth placed team in the RaboDirect PRO12 table, which at present is the Glasgow Warriors, and they look a safe bet to progress to the knockout stages of the tournament. On Friday, the Irish Province who have won their last three Pro12 fixtures and who are currently third in the regular season table, with 51 points from 14 fixtures, play host to Edinburgh in Round 15 at the RDS, where they are unbeaten in the Pro12 this season.

Edinburgh, while in fine form in the Challenge Cup this season, where they have progressed as far as the quarter-finals, have had a woeful Pro12 campaign, winning just four of their 14 matches to date. A record that sees them down in ninth position with just 20 points to their credit. The only win that the Scots have registered in the last six fixtures in the tournament, came at Zebre in Italy in Round 12 on New Year's Eve, when they won by 24-19, which is also their only away win in the competition this season. When Edinburgh played host to Leinster in Round 3, back in mid-September, the Irishmen were victorious by 33-20.

Round 20 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament kicks off on Friday Evening at the RDS, when Leinster who go into this weekend leading the regular season table, welcome Edinburgh from Scotland. Friday's fixture is vital to both sides in their quest to both qualify for the end of season play-offs, but also to claim a place in next season's Champions Cup. The last time that the Irish Province were defeated at the RDS Arena in Dublin was way back in February of last year, when Newport Gwent Dragons secured the points. Since that reverse, Leinster have been unbeaten in 12 successive games at the venue.

To find the last occasion that a visiting Scottish side beat Leinster in Ireland, it is necessary to go back to September 2011, when the Glasgow Warriors were victorious at the RDS. Edinburgh have risen to seventh position in the table, thanks to a recent run of results that has seen just one loss in the last four fixtures in the PRO12. That was a 23-28 reverse against another Irish side, Connacht at Murrayfield in early March. If the Scots are to stay in touch with the sides above them going into the final couple of weeks of the campaign, they will need to secure a first win on Leinster soil for over a decade. The last win being in the PRO12 in November 2005.

Leinster who have appeared in the past five finals of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament, winning the last two, have made an indifferent start to their defence of their title. Three wins and three losses leaves them in sixth position in the table after the first six rounds. However, the past two weeks has seen them defeat Wasps and Castres in the European Champions Cup, to head their qualifying Pool in that competition. On Friday, the visitors to the RDS are Edinburgh from Scotland, who will be attempting to become the first side to defeat the Leinstermen at the RDS for 23 matches. The last 16 games of that 22 match unbeaten run, all being victories. Leinster were defeated in Dublin on 4th October in the PRO12 by fellow Irish Province Munster, but that fixture was played in front of over 40,000 fans at the Aviva Stadium.

Although the Scottish side will come into Friday's contest on the back of three successive wins in all tournaments, they haven't managed four on the bounce since 2009/10, while they have managed just one win against Irish Provinces in the last right attempts. A shock 14-13 success at Thomond Park against Munster in Round 1 of this season's PRO12 tournament.

Leinster will be hoping that Saturdays clash at the Royal Dublin Society will see them collect the two points that they need to secure the top ranking in the RaboDirect PRO12 post season play offs. A losing bonus point will be enough to at least assure them of a home semi-final match. Despite the disappointment of a Heineken Cup quarter final defeat, Leinster's progress through the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament has continued almost uninterrupted. They have now lost just one of their last 11 matches in the competition, which was by 19-25 at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea against the Ospreys. Edinburgh has played four games against Irish Provinces in Ireland, in all competitions this season. All of which have ended in defeat. It will be a major shock if they become the first side to beat the Leinstermen at the RDS in any competition since a PRO12 match in March 2013, when Ulster were the visitors.

Edinburgh's last success in Dublin was way back in 2005, when they were victorious at Donnybrook. If they do manage to record an unexpected victory on Saturday, it will be the first season's double over the Irish Province since 2003/04, having won the clash between the sides at Murrayfield in round 10, by 11-6.
