Munster                          Connacht
Saturday 28th November 17:15 GMT

The top two sides in the Guinness PRO12 table will go head to head at Thomond Park in Limerick, when Munster who are currently in second position, play host to fellow Irish Province, Connacht. The only defeat that Munster have suffered this season in any tournament, came in Round 5 of the PRO12, when they lost the battle of the unbeaten sides at Parc y Scarlets by 22-25 against the Scarlets.

Munster are on a run of 13 successive victories at home in the PRO12, in Cork and Limerick, since Ospreys were victorious visitors back in September 2014. If the men from the West of Ireland manage to end Munster's winning run on Saturday, they will set a new record for the Province in the tournament, of six successive wins. Since losing by 32-33 against the current RaboDirect PRO12 Champions, the Glasgow Warriors, in Round 2, Connacht have gone on a five match winning sequence.

However, Connacht have to go way way back in the record books to 1986, to find the last time that they tasted success at Thomond Park. They did however, manage to defeat the Munstermen on New Year's Day in Galway by 24-16, which was their first victory against their neighbours since 2008.

An Irish derby of vital importance to both Provinces takes place at Thomond Park in Limerick on Saturday, when Munster host Connacht in Round 18 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament. Munster whose defeat at the Ospreys in the last round of the tournament ended a run of four unbeaten games, are in third place in the table, but have only a two point advantage over defending Champions Leinster, who are just outside the play-off positions in fifth position.

Saturday's visitors Connacht, are involved in a three-way fight with the Scarlets and Edinburgh for the final automatic Champions Cup place for next season. When the teams met at the Sportsground in Galway earlier in the season, Connacht pulled off a 24-16 victory. If they can create another shock on Saturday at Thomond, it will be their first ever season double against the Munstermen. However, to do so, will require a first win on Munster soil since 1986, when they squeezed home 11-9 at Saturday's venue, well before the introduction of the PRO12 tournament.

Munster haven't been beaten at home by another Irish Province, since Ulster beat them 17-19 last May, their only loss to their fellow countrymen in the past two years in either Cork or Limerick.

Munster kept their clear lead at the head of the RaboDirect PRO12 table last weekend, thanks to their unexpectedly close, and as it turned out, last gasp victory over the Scarlets from Wales, whom they defeated by 16-10 in Cork. Their opponents at Thomond Park on Friday evening, Connacht, gained just their second PRO12 victory of the season last week, and their first in nine matches, when they defeated their visitors from Wales, the Newport Gwent Dragons by 14-11. The victory was enough to life the Irish province off of the bottom of the table, and shunting the Italians of Zebre down to the bottom spot.

Munster's only PRO12 defeat this season, was back on September 20h, when they surprisingly lost to Treviso of Italy, away from home by 19-29, and it will probably take a similar performance by Connacht to the one that they produced in defeating the French giants from Toulouse in France, in the Heineken Cup, if they are to inflict a first home defeat of the season on the Munstermen.

The men from Galway will also have history against them on Friday evening, as they have lost their nine fixtures against Friday's opponents, and have indeed beaten Munster just once since 1986, won they were victorious by 12-6 in Galway, in December 2008.
