The Guinness Pro12 table leaders Munster, will look to record an eighth straight Pro12 victory on Friday Evening, when they play host at the Independent Park in Cork to the Newport Gwent Dragons, in Round 14 of this season's tournament. The visitors from Wales are in a lowly tenth position, with only the two competing Italian sides below them, and have failed to win any of their last 18 away games in the Pro12. The last time that they enjoyed a victory away from their Rodney Parade home, was back in March 2015, when they defeated Benetton Treviso at the Stadio Monigo.
In order to find the last, and indeed only Dragons victory in Munster, it is necessary to troll the record books as far back as March 2004, when they were victorious at Thomond Park. Cork has not been the happiest of venues for the Irish Province recently, with two losses, both to Welsh Regions, in the last four games that they have played there. The two sides previously met in Round 3 of the competition, with Munster squeezing a 20-16 victory. The start of a run that has seen the Irishmen lost just one of their last 11 RaboDirect PRO12 fixtures. The Dragons ended a run of three straight losses in the Pro12, when they won their most recent fixture, 26-8 against Benetton Treviso on 6th January.

It will a major shock if Munster fail to beat the Newport Gwent Dragons on Saturday in the Guinness PRO12 at Thomond Park. However, Munster who are normally close to invincible on home soil, have won just once in their last five home matches in all tournaments, a 26-13 success against French Top 14 Champions, Stade Francais, in the European Cup by 26-13. Just four points behind fourth place Ulster, with a game in hand, Munster will be eager to secure victory, knowing that their Irish rivals have a home game against the lowly Italians from Zebre on Friday.
The Dragons arrive in Limerick with a perfect away record in the RaboDirect PRO12 this season, played eight and lost all eight. The Welsh Region do not enjoy their trips across the Irish Sea. Since September 2008, they have won just one game on Irish soil, when they defeated Leinster at RDS Arena in February 2015. Should the Dragons record their first away win of the season in the PRO12, they will complete a season's double over Munster for the first time in over a decade, 2003/04 being the last campaign in which they managed the feat. Having won by 22-6 when the sides clashed at Rodney Parade in Round 6.

Munster are in third place in the RaboDirect PRO12 table, but are level on 70 points with the two sides above them, the Ospreys and the Glasgow Warriors. On Saturday they face the Newport Gwent Dragons at Irish Independent Park in Cork, seeking the win that will give them a chance of a top two finish, and a vital home game in the semi-finals. The Irish Province have suffered just a solitary loss in their last nine PRO12 encounters, when they played at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea against the Ospreys in Round 17. The Cork venue has proved to be very productive for the Irish side, having won nine successive matches at the venue. Their last defeat on the ground coming back in January 2013, when the Cardiff Blues were the visitors.
The Dragons are certain of finishing the season in ninth place whatever the outcome of Saturday's match, and may lack the motivation compared to Munster, to provide a shock end of season result, even though they have won three out of their four games against Irish opposition in 2015. However, Newport's only win against Munster in their last eight encounters came at Rodney Parade in April 2013.
