Munster                          Ospreys
Friday 4th November 19:35 GMT

Fourth in the RaboDirect PRO12 table faces second on Friday Evening at the Independent Park in Cork, when Munster host the Osprey's from Wales. After last week's late drama in Belfast, where Munster stole the victory from Ulster with a 78th minute drop goal, they now boast a record of just a single defeat in their last six fixtures in all tournaments. A 14-25 reverse at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, against top of the table Leinster in Round 6 of the PRO12. Although the Munstermen have only been beaten twice on home soil since the middle of January, both of those losses have been in Cork, their second home, against the Ospreys and the Cardiff Blues.

The Ospreys arrive looking for back to back wins in Cork, on a run of four straight victories in all competitions. Their last defeat being in Belfast against Ulster by 7-9 in Round 5 of the PRO12. The Welsh Region have a poor record against Irish Provinces since May 2015, winning just two of the dozen games that they have played against teams from the Emerald Isle in that time. However, they appear to be able to raise their game when they travel to face the Munstermen, losing just twice in their last six visits.

Since losing their Champions Cup tie against Stade Francais on 9 January, Munster have played and won three matches. The last two of which have been in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament. Although Munster are the lowest placed of the Irish Provinces in the PRO12 table, they are still sitting in sixth position, and are only three points outside the play-off positions, such is the dominance of Irish teams in this season's tournament. On Sunday, the Irish side will welcome the Ospreys from Wales to the Irish Independent Park in Cork. Having lost their last two home matches in the PRO12, both of which were played at Thomond Park in Limerick, the Munstermen will be pleased of the change in surroundings. The last side to defeat Munster in Cork, was the Cardiff Blues. That reverse was over three years ago, since when they have played and won a dozen matches on the spin at the venue.

The Ospreys are just one place behind their hosts, but trail them by six points, and have played a game more. Sunday is a vital game for the Welshmen, who will probably be out of the running for the post-season play-offs if they suffer defeat. Although this will be the first time that the Ospreys have played in Cork since 2008, they had played at the venue every year between 2004-08. Recording a win on their first visit by 18-15.

Although Munster have reached the RaboDirect PRO12 semi-finals in five of the last six seasons, Saturday will see them host a last four encounter at Thomond Park for the first time since 2011. On Saturday, they will face the Ospreys from Wales, who by coincidence are the only team that the Munsternen have beaten in a semi-final in their last nine attempts in all tournaments. That success came in the PRO12 by 18-11 in May 2011 in Limerick. The Ospreys come into their first play-off match since 2012 in fine form, having recorded six successive PRO12 wins, since they were held 9-9 at the Liberty Stadium by Leinster at the end of February. However, if they are to progress to the final, they will need to win a fourth straight away match in the tournament for the first time in their history.

The Welsh Region can boast of a fine recent record at Thomond Park, which is normally such a difficult place for visiting teams to go to. They have won twice and drawn once on their last four visits, including this season, when they were one of only two teams, Edinburgh being the other, to win at the venue in the regular season.

Saturday will bring a challenge that might give more of an indication as to Munster's prospects in the new Guinness PRO12 season, than the past two fixtures, when the Ospreys arrive at Thomond Park from South Wales. Almost unbeatable at Thomond Park in recent seasons, Munster started the season with a disappointing defeat to Edinburgh on their own ground, since when the Scots have suffered two defeats, including conceding over 60 points at the Liberty Stadium against the Ospreys last weekend. Since the opening day defeat, Munster have won consecutive fixtures, though both have been against Italian opposition. Although they have recorded comfortable victories in both games, those successes have come against two sides who have yet to register a single point between them in the current campaign.

The table topping Ospreys have won their last four games in the tournament, their last loss coming to Zebre in Parma in May. However, they haven't won in Limerick since October 2011, won they posted a 17-13 win. Last season, Munster completed the double against the Ospreys, part of a record against Welsh Regions that saw Munster win seven out of eight matches, the only reverse being against the Scarlets in Round 15.

Munster unseated the previous table toppers, Glasgow Warriors, last weekend, with a victory at Scotstoun, which saw the Irish province replace the previously unbeaten Warriors at the top of the RaboDirect PRO12 table. The only blemish on the Munstermen's record in their last seven fixtures in the competition, cam surprisingly against the Italians of Benetton Treviso in round three. Thomond Park continues to be one of the most difficult places for away sides to achieve a positive result, with the only side from outside Ireland to lower their colors there in the PRO12 tournament since October 2006, being the Swansea Ospreys, who have managed the feat twice. Saturday's clash will see the top two in the table meeting each other, as the Ospreys themselves rose to second spot in the standings, following a 40-17 try bonus point victory over the Newport Gwent Dragons at the Liberty Stadium last Friday.

The Welsh region have a poor recent record against Irish provinces, with just one victory from their last seven encounters with opponents from across the Irish seas in all competition. A 43-26 away to Connacht on 28th September this year. However, their recent record against Munster Rugby is much more impressive, as they are unbeaten in their last five fixtures against the Munstermen. The Irish team not having been victorious since an 18-11 in the PRO12 Play-Off in May 2011.
