The Ospreys and the Newport Gwent Dragons meet in a Welsh derby at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Saturday, in Round 7 of the Guinness PRO12 tournament. The Ospreys are third in the table, having won all three matches that they have played at the Liberty this season in the competition. They have also won the solitary Champions Cup fixture that they have played at home. Those four wins have brought the Welsh region 31 tries, with just five conceded. The only loss that the Ospreys have suffered in their last nine Welsh derbies, was back in March, when the Scarlets won in Swansea by 25-16.

The Dragons have made a woeful start to the season, with just one win in the PRO12, and two in all tournaments so far. The solitary RaboDirect PRO12 success came against bottom of the table Zebre from Italy in Round2, while they also defeated Top 14 club Brive in the Challenge Cup at Rodney Parade by 37-16. The most recent win against another Welsh Region that the Dragons have enjoyed in the PRO12, was way back on Boxing Day 2014, when they travelled to their nearest rivals the Cardiff Blues. Their last win of any sort away from home in the PRO12 tournament was in March last year, in Italy against Benetton Treviso.

The Ospreys host the Newport Gwent Dragons in a Welsh derby at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Friday, looking to build on the thrilling victory that they recorded on Boxing Day against their neighbours the Scarlets. That stunning 27-26 win at the Parc y Scarlets against the table toppers, was the Ospreys fourth successive win in the tournament. Their last defeat in the PRO12 coming when they travelled to the reigning Champions, Glasgow Warriors at the beginning of November and were beaten 19-31.

The Ospreys will be defending an unbeaten record at the Liberty Stadium against other Welsh Regions that stretches back to October 2010, when the Dragons were victorious. The Dragons were beaten by a single point in their Holiday derby against the Cardiff Blues, which brought an end to their three game winning run in all competitions. However, while they continue to perform well in the Challenge Cup, the Dragons continue to struggle in the RaboDirect PRO12, sitting in tenth position with only the two Italians teams below them in the table. Ospreys hold the upper hand in recent meetings, with seven successive wins against the Dragons to their credit since the Newport based outfit won 21-20 at Rodney Parade in January 2012.

Despite losing their most recent Guinness PRO12 match, away to their West Wales rivals, the Scarlets, the Swansea based Ospreys retained their top spot in the table last weekend. On Sunday, they entertain another fellow Welsh Region, when the Newport Gwent Dragons visit the Liberty Stadium. A venue where the Ospreys have won ten successive matches against other Welsh teams in the PRO12 tournament.

The last side to win a RaboDirect PRO12 fixture at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea against the Ospreys, was Munster in February 2014. WhileSunday's visitors the Dragons were the last Welsh Region to win at the venue 21-16 in October 2010. The Dragons win, was the only defeat the Ospreys have suffered to a Welsh Region at home in the PRO12 since 2007. Despite showing some improved form in recent fixtures, the Dragons are still in 10th position in the table, with just three wins in the PRO12 this season. Although they have beaten the Ospreys this season, that 51-35 victory was secured at the Brewery Field in Bridgend in the Anglo-Welsh Cup in November, when both sides were weakened by international calls. The last six contests in the PRO12 between the two sides have all been won by the Ospreys.

Although the Swansea based Ospreys have an admirable record in the Celtic league in its different guises over the years, they are constantly regarded as the great under-achievers of Welsh rugby, and their form this season, suggests that 2013-14 is not going to any different. The Swansea Ospreys are currently on a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions, and that includes two losses at their own Liberty Stadium. If they suffer a further defeat on Friday night to their Welsh rivals, it will be the first time since 2004 that they will have lost three consecutive matches at the Liberty Stadium.

The Ospreys will look to their record against the other Welsh regions for some consolation going into Friday night's contest. They have won their eight encounters against the other Welsh sides in the RaboDirect PRO12, with their last defeat at home to a Welsh side, coming back in October 2010, against the Dragons. The last ten matches in all competitions that the Newport Gwent Dragons have played have all been won by the home side, and the Dragons have not won away from Rodney Parade since they beat Zebre 14-13 way back in February. Dragons last success against the Ospreys in the PRO12 was on 6th January 2012 at their own Rodney Parade ground, although they did defeat them in the Anglo Welsh Cup last season, and they can only boast of a single victory in eight attempts at the Liberty Stadium.
