Ospreys                          Edinburgh
Friday 2nd December 19:35 GMT

The Ospreys look to maintain their challenge for top place in the RaboDirect PRO12 table, when they host Edinburgh at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Friday Evening. At the end of Round 9, the Welsh Region occupy third place, trailing Irish Provinces Munster and Leinster by two and one point respectively. After losing back to back matches in Ireland against Leinster and Ulster, the Ospreys have won three of their last four PRO12 fixtures. The one reverse being a spanking 0-33 loss away to table topping Munster.

Friday Evening's fixture will be the first time that the Ospreys have faced Scottish opposition at the Liberty Stadium this season. Until now, the Welshmen have won all four PRO12 fixtures they have played on home soil, two against Italian and two against fellow Welsh sides. The Scots from Edinburgh have endured a miserable campaign to date, with just three wins to set alongside six defeats in the PRO12, and as a result that sit in tenth position, with only the Italians of Zebre and Treviso below them. The 14 points that Edinburgh have collected, leaves them a massive 13 points adrift of the play-off positions, as the season approaches the halfway point.

The Ospreys have only lost once in their last eight games in the Guinness PRO12 Tournament, a 9-22 defeat to the Irishmen of Leinster in early January, but they still find themselves 10 points outside the post-season play-off positions. A indication of how poor their start to the campaign was. On Friday Evening the Ospreys will welcome Edinburgh to the Liberty Stadium in Swansea, attempting a first win in three attempts on home soil in the PRO12. Having drawn 20-20 with another Scottish outfit, the Glasgow Warriors, last time out, following on from the loss to Leinster. Edinburgh are in fifth position in the table, six points behind Scarlets who occupy the final play-off position. However, they haven't won outside their homeland in the PRO12, since they travelled to Treviso in Italy back in September. A record they need to improve on, if they have genuine aspirations of claiming a play-off position.

If the Scots can claim victory on Friday, it will be the first time in the Ospreys history that they have gone three consecutive home games in the PRO12 without a win. However, Edinburgh do not have a good record at the Liberty Stadium, where they have only ever won twice, the last time being back in 2009.

The Swansea Ospreys will look to record a fifth successive win at their Liberty Stadium home in Swansea on Sunday, when they welcome Edinburgh from Scotland in week 3 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament. The last team to escape the Liberty Stadium without defeat was Munster back in February. The Welsh Region have started the season with a try-scoring bonus point victory against the Italians from Treviso, before squeezing a narrow two point victory at their Welsh rival the Newport Gwent Dragons in Round 2.

Their nine points are enough to see them top the table at this early stage of the new season. Edinburgh began their own campaign with a shock win at Thomond Park against Munster, where the final score was 14-13 in favor of the Scots. Round 2 saw a reverse of the previous week, when they slipped to a 14-13 defeat at Murrayfield against another Irish Province, Connacht. The win in Limerick against Munster, was the Scots side's only victory in their last seven fixtures. Should they win on Sunday, it will be the first time that they have won successive away matches since November 2009. On the last four occasions that these two teams have met, the home team on the day has been victorious.
