The two leading Welsh Regions in this season's Guinness PRO12 tournament, the Ospreys and the Scarlets, go head to head at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Tuesday, in a West Wales derby. The Ospreys are top dogs in Wales going into Tuesday's fixture, sitting in third position in the PRO12 table. The 36 points that they have collected from their first 10 games of the season, leave them a single point behind the Irish pair of Leinster and Munster. The Swansea based outfit have a four point advantage over Tuesday visitors, thanks to their ability to pick up more bonus points than their fellow countrymen. They have secured eight to the Scarlets four.

The Ospreys have won all five of the RaboDirect PRO12 games that they have played at the Liberty Stadium this season, with the 31 points they scored against Edinburgh in Round 10, being their lowest return. The Scarlets, after a disastrous beginning to the campaign, when they lost their first three PRO12 matches, have now won seven successive games as they have climbed to fifth in the table, and are the form team in the competition. They also recorded a stunning Champions Cup victory against French giants Toulon last weekend.

The West Wales derby between the Ospreys and the Scarlets takes place at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday, in the latest round of Guinness PRO12 action. The Ospreys dreadful start to the season, when they lost five of the first six matches they played in the PRO12, left them playing catch up on the top sides from an early stage. However, successive defeats in their last two fixtures, away at Connacht and Leinster, have left them with little chance of making either the play-offs or claiming a place in next season's Champions Cup.

The Scarlets on the other hand, won their first six RaboDirect PRO12 fixtures, and have never been far from the suit of the table. With just five rounds of the regular season remaining, they occupy third place with a six point buffer over Munster in fifth spot. The Liberty isn't one of the Scarlets favourite venues, having only ever enjoyed one win there, which was back in September 2007, and in recent meetings with their rivals they have managed just one win in the last seven clashed at any venue. Having beaten the Scarlets by a solitary point on Boxing Day, the Ospreys will be keen to complete a season's double, and maintain a home record, that has seen them beaten just once in the last nine games they have played at the Liberty in all tournaments.

The latest West Wales derby between the Ospreys and the Scarlets takes place on Saturday at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea, in Round 11 of the RaboDirect PRO12. Ospreys are currently at the top of the table, following their brilliant 31-20 victory at home to the Irishmen from Ulster last weekend, which ended a run of six games without a victory in all tournaments. Amazingly, given that the Scarlets are the second highest Welsh team in the tournament, they are six places and a staggering 13 points behind the rivals. Even given that derby fixtures are prone to throw the form book out of the window, it is difficult to see the Scarlets knocking their rivals off of the top of the table.

The last team to beat the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in the PRO12, were MUnster in Round 15 of last season's tournament, since when the Ospreys have won eight matches in a row. Their run of success against their fellow Welsh Regions is even more impressive, as they have now won 16 consecutive fixtures against their fellow countrymen in the PRO12 tournament, a run that stretches back to a defeat in 2010 against the Dragons.

The Ospreys will be looking for a holiday double over their closest rivals, the Scarlets, when the two sides clash at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea on Friday Evening. Victory will help to cement the Ospreys place in the top four of the RaboDirect PRO12 table, while Scarlets are holding down a mid-table mediocre position, and look to have little chance of making the end of season play-offs, even at this relatively early stage of the campaign. The last time that the Swansea Ospreys tasted defeat, was in France against the reigning French champions, Castres, in the Heineken Cup, which was back on 6 December, since when they have won three matches on the trot in all competitions. The last time that the Ospreys appeared at the Liberty in the PRO12, they suffered just their second home defeat in the tournament, since September 2012. That loss came against Glasgow Warriors, who jumped above Ulster as a result of that victory, and into fourth place in the table.

Ospreys have not suffered defeat to another Welsh Region at the Liberty Stadium, since the Dragons lowered their colors in October 2010. With Scarlets only ever having recorded a single victory at the Liberty. A result that came back in 2007, when they were victorious by 14-9.
