Scarlets                          Connacht
Saturday 24th September 18:35 GMT

Two sides still looking for a first win of the season in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament, the Scarlets and Connacht, face each other on Saturday at the Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli. The Welsh Region have lost all three games they have played this season, and have yet to pick up a single point. Including the end of last season, the Scarlets have now gone four successive PRO12 games without registering a single league point. Since moving to the venue in 2008, the Scarlets have never lost four consecutive matches at the ground, but should they suffer defeat to the reigning Champions on Saturday, they will break that record, having lost their last three fixtures on home soil.

Connacht game in Italy against Zebre last weekend was abandoned, with the weather threatening the players and officials safety. That leaves the reigning Champions with a record of played two and lost two this season. Like the Scarlets, they too are still searching for their first point of any description. The Scarlets will be seeking a twelfth successive home win against the Irish Province, the previous 11 have been at three different venues. The last time that Connacht tasted victory at the Scarlets was in October 2004 in a PRO12 fixture, when the Welsh Region were still playing at their spiritual home of Stradey Park. Overall, the two sides have played 26 PRO12 games against each other, with the Scarlets winning 17, Connacht eight times, and one game drawn.

The Scarlets who host Connacht from the West of Ireland at the Parc y Scarlets on Sunday in the Guinness PRO12 tournament, go into the weekend still topping the table, despite suffering four successive defeats in all competitions, two of which have been in the PRO12. Three of those losses have been close enough for them to have earned a losing bonus point.

Connacht who have been vying for top position in the table for much of the season, have slipped down to third, but are only two points adrift of their hosts this weekend. The Irish Region like their hosts are on a poor run of results. They have won just once in their last five outings in all competitions, a 25-10 win against the Newcastle Falcons in Galway, in a Challenge Cup Pool match. In the RaboDirect PRO12 they have lost three consecutive away games, since their stunning victory in Munster at the end of November. Connacht have never won at the Parc y Scarlets, their last win on Scarlets soil came at the historic old Stradey Park, way back in October 2004. While their only win anywhere against Sunday;s hosts in the last seven meetings, was in Galway in 2014 when they recorded a 14-8 win.

Scarlets will be defending a long term unbeaten home record when they face Connacht at the Parc y Scarlets on Sunday in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament. Although the Welsh Region have managed just one win in their last five PRO12 outings, they are unbeaten at their own stadium for a dozen PRO12 fixtures. A run that dates back to Boxing Day 2013, when their great West Wales rivals the Ospreys took the honours 10-6.

Scarlets only success in their last five PRO12 matches, ironically came against the tournament table toppers, the Ospreys, who were defeated 22-10 on 3rd January. After a promising start to the season, that saw them challenging for a top four position, Connacht have slipped up in recent rounds, and with just a single win to their name from the last four PRO12 games, they have slipped to sixth position, and are eight points adrift of the play-off positions. When the two sides clashed in Galway earlier in the season, the Irish Province took the points with a 14-8 win. Victory on Sunday in Llanelli would give the Irishmen a first ever season double over their Welsh opponents. However, it is over 10 years since Connacht beat the Scarlets in Wales, long enough ago for that win to have been at Stradey Park.
