The Scarlets have managed only a single victory in their last eight games in all tournaments, a 21-19 win against Connacht in the Guinness PRO12 in early January. However, despite that poor run of results, they only gave up top spot in the PRO12 table last weekend as the result of Ulster's last victory over the Newport Gwent Dragons, which lifted the Irish Province a point clear of the Welshmen.
On Friday the Scarlets play host to fifth placed Edinburgh, who are just three points behind their hosts. Given the poor run that the Scarlets find themselves on, they have somewhat surprisingly, lost only one of the last eight PRO12 fixtures that they have played at their Parc y Scarlets Stadium home. That loss, which came against neighbours the Ospreys on Boxing Day, couldn't have been any closer, the final score being 26-27.
Since beating Agen in the Challenge Cup, Edinburgh have lost both games that they have played. Against Grenoble, also in the Challenge Cup and the Cardiff Blues in the RaboDirect PRO12, both of those defeats were away from home. The Scots have played eight previous times at the Pard, winning on two occasions. A win on Friday Evening would bring an end to a run of five successive losses on Welsh Soil. The last time they claimed the points on a trip to the principality was in March 2015 against the Scarlets at the Parc.

The Scarlets and Edinburgh meet in a might scrap at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium on Saturday in Round 18 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament, as both sides attempt to chase down Connacht, in the battle for the final automatic place in next seasons Champions Cup. Connacht currently have a three point advantage over the Scarlets, with Edinburgh a further point back, and just five rounds of regular season competition to go.
Not only are the Welsh Region on a run of just one defeat in their last four PRO12 matches, a narrow 20-25 reverse against Ulster in Belfast, but they are unbeaten at the Parc home for 13 matches, their last loss in the stadium coming back on Boxing Day 2013. Amazingly the Scottish visitors arrive in Wales as the PRO12 team in the best current form, having accumulated 19 points in their last six fixtures. However, the records show that they have only managed to win once in their last nine visits to Wales, and that win was very nearly a year ago, when they beat the Dragons 23-19.
The Scarlets certainly hold the edge over their visitors in recent times, with the Scots winning just one of the last nine games between the sides, a 26-23 win at Murrayfield in March 2012, although the teams did draw the first clash this season 20-20 at the same venue.

Two sides who have both suffered disappointing seasons, will face each other at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium on Saturday afternoon, when Welsh Region the Scarlets, play host to Edinburgh from Scotland.
Neither side is realistically challenging for an end of season play-off place, with Scarlets currently in sixth position, and Edinburgh in eighth, and both clubs failed to progress beyond the Pool stages of this season's Heineken Cup, with both also failing to parachute into the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter Finals. Scarlets game last weekend against Ulster fell victim to the weather, which means that they will seek win a second successive RaboDirect PRO12 match, having beaten the Italians of Treviso by 41-33 in round 13. A victory that brought an end to a run of four successive losses in the competition. Edinburgh themselves have lost their last two games in the tournament, against Glasgow warriors and Connacht, and have only a single victory away from their Murrayfield base since December 2012 in the PRO12, and that came at the hapless Zebre last March.
With a record of just one win on Welsh soil since 2009, from 17 visits to the principality, Edinburgh will go into Saturday's clash perhaps fearing the worse, despite the Scarlets having won only two of last six home games in the tournament, against Treviso and Ulster.
