The Scarlets will attempt to become just the second side to beat Leinster in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament this season, when the two sides clash at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium in Llanelli on Friday Evening, in Round 9 of the competition. The Welsh Region made a miserable start to the campaign, losing all of their first three fixtures, at home against Munster, and then away to Edinburgh and Ulster. However, since their defeat in Belfast, they have five straight victories to their credit in the PRO12. Three of those successes coming at the Parc.

In total from their record of five wins and three defeats, the Welsh side have accumulated 22 points, enough to place them sixth in the table going into the weekend's fixtures. They are just four points outside the play-off positions. Leinster have proved an almost unstoppable force in this season's tournament. The only defeat that they have suffered in eight fixtures, came in Round 2 when they travelled to Glasgow and were beaten by the Warriors by 25-33. Since the loss at the Scotstoun, the Dublin based Irish Province have won at Edinburgh, the Cardiff Blues and Zebre, and they now top the table by three points.

Scarlets sit proudly at the top of the Guinness PRO12 table, with three wins out of three, as they go into Friday's match at the Parc y Scarlets Stadium against Leinster from Ireland. The only time that the Welsh Region have suffered defeat at the venue since Boxing Day 2013, was against the Scottish outfit Edinburgh last March. When the two sides met in Round 17 of last season's RaboDirect PRO12 tournament, the Scarlets prevailed 23-13, which ended a run of six successive losses in all competitions to the Irish Province. However, if they make it four wins from four games, it will be the first time that the Scarlets have registered consecutive wins against the Dublin based outfit since 2004.

Leinster are currently in sixth place on the table, having won two and lost one fixture so far, and recording two bonus points in those games. Their only loss in the last five games they have played in the PRO12, came at Meggetland in Round 1, when they slipped up against Edinburgh by 9-16. However, they have managed only one win on the road in any tournament since January, was by coincidence against Edinburgh at Murrayfield in May.

Scarlets continue their pursuit of Connacht for the final automatic qualification position from the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament, for next seasons Champions Cup, when they play the reigning Champions Leinster at Parc y Scarlets Stadium on Saturday. The Welsh Region are unbeaten at their Parc home in the PRO12 since Boxing day 2013, when they were beaten by West Wales rivals the Ospreys. However, the face an Irish team on Saturday who have beaten them on the last six occasions in all tournaments. Leinster have just a two point advantage over the Ospreys as they battle it out for the fourth position in the table, which would see the team finishing highest secure a place in the Post-Season play-offs, and in Leinster’s case a chance to secure a third successive title.

The Scarlets challenge for the Champions Cup spot has faltered in recent fixtures, with just one win in their last four games in the competition, a 32-14 win against Connacht in mid-February. Leinster meanwhile have picked up from an inconsistent start to the campaign, and have lost just once in their last seven matches in all tournaments, a shock 14-16 PRO12 loss to the Dragons at the RDS. They have drawn two games during that run of matches.

Welsh province Scarlets face a tough opening game in the Pro12 as they take on defending champions Leinster in Round 1. Watch Scarlets v Leinster live on your computer by joining today. The men from Llanelli will only have to look to last season’s opening clash for inspiration, when they thrashed Leinster 45-20 to register their first win over the Irish side since 2009. Scarlets outscored Leinster 7 tries to 2 on that occasion, but big winger George North, who netted a brace that day, will not be playing this time as he has shifted base to Northampton.

Since then, normal business has resumed for Leinster, who beat Scarlets twice in the Heineken Cup and demolished them 32-5 in the returning league fixture in February. Leinster has some problems out of their own- they look a little thin in the backs, with Luke Fitzgerald likely to feature at outside-centre in the absence of the legendary Brian O’Driscoll. The clubs no longer have Fionn Carr and Andrew Conway on their books, with injuries also forcing Eoin O’Malley to retire. Will Scarlets emulate last season’s opening day triumph against Leinster? Saturday, the 1st of September there is a match at 18:30 local time and 17:30 GMT as the Scarlets and Leinster face off in Llanelli in the RaboDirect Pro12 competition. There is no RaboDirect Pro12 table yet because the three games that are scheduled to be played this weekend will be the first games that are set up for this year. However, if we take a look at our teams' spots in last year's standings, we may be able to see where they might end up this year. The table last year was led by Leinster, who had 18 wins and 81 wins.

As for the Scarlets, they came in a little further down the table. They were only able to earn 62 points last year, so they got the fifth spot, and had 12 wins and 8 losses. They were also responsible for 2 draws last year.
