The Scarlets will probably be glad to be back in action in the Guinness PRO12 tournament this weekend, when they host the Ospreys in a West Wales derby on Boxing Day at the Parc y Scarlets. The last two weeks have the seen the sides in European Cup action, and things have not gone well for the PRO12 league leaders. The Scarlets were first hammered when they travelled to the Scotstoun to face the Glasgow Warriors, and were then beaten narrowly in the return last weekend in Wales.

They have now lost three of their four European Pool matches, which a poor return for a side that has lost just once all season in the RaboDirect PRO12, 15-19 in Dublin against Leinster in early March. Ospreys are the only Welsh Region to have beaten the Scarlets on their home soil since April 2010, and have managed to do so three times. However, going into Saturday's contest, the home side have lost just once in their previous 22 PRO12 matches at the Parc, when Edinburgh were the visitors back in March.

Scarlet's head coach, Simon Easterby has made 11 changes to his starting XV for the Boxing Day derby clash with the Ospreys at the Parc y Scarlets. Easterby pairs Scott Williams and Nic Reynolds in the centers, while he is able to welcome back the half back pair of Rhys Priestland and Gareth Davies. Robert McCusker will skipper the team.

Scarlets will be bidding to end a run of matches in all competitions, which has seen them lose their last four games, since they defeated Connacht in Galway by 24-21 in the RaboDirect PRO12 in November. Not only is their recent form poor, but they also have a less than impressive record against their West Wales rivals, having recorded just a single victory over the Ospreys from the last ten games that the two have played against each other, since 2007.

Osprey's come into the derby on the back of victories over the French champions, Castres in the Heineken Cup, and Cardiff Blues in the PRO12. The latter victory seeing them leapfrogs into fourth spot in the table. Not only can Swansea Ospreys boast of their fine record over the Scarlets during the past six years, but they have not lost to any Welsh Region in the PRO12 tournament since losing at the Dragons by just 20-21 back in January 2012.
