Scarlets                          Zebre
Friday 17th February 19:35 GMT

The Scarlets who are currently in fourth position in the table, look as if they will be embroiled in a three way battle for the fourth and final play-off place in the RaboDirect PRO12 until the end of the season, with the Glasgow Warriors and Ulster. Munster, ospreys and Leinster look as if they have opened up a significant enough gap at the top of the table, to be reasonably assured of a semi-final position, while behind them, the Scarlets have 44 points from 14 games, three more than the Warriors, and six more than Ulster. However, Ulster have a game in hand, which is against the bottom side Zebre in Belfast.

By co-incidence, the Scarlets are themselves hosting Zebre at the Parc y Scarlets on Friday Evening. A game in which they will be desperate to not only win, but pick up a try scoring bonus point in the process. The Scarlets have lost just one of their last 11 Pro12 fixtures, and are the form side in the competition. The one reverse came in their local derby against the Ospreys on 3rd December, when they were beaten at the Liberty Stadium by 9-19. When the Scarlets played Zebre in Parma in Round 10, they were the winners by 31-24.

The Scarlets lost the last 100% winning record in the PRO12 tournament in Round 7, the final game before the two week European break, when they were beaten in Dublin 9-15 by Leinster. On Sunday they will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome the Italians of Zebre to the Parc y Scarlets. The Welsh Region have lost just once at the venue in the last 21 PRO12 fixtures they have played there, a reverse against Edinburgh in March.

Sunday's visitors from Parma have managed just one win away from home in the RaboDirect PRO12 since their formation just over two seasons ago, which came on a trip to the Arms Park to play the Cardiff Blues in September 2013. The two sides have met seven times previously, with the Scarlets winning six times, and the other match ending in 1 16-16 draw in Parma in October 2013. Despite their six victories, the Scarlets have yet to record a try scoring bonus point against Zebre. Zebre are tenth in the table with two wins to their credit, both of which came in Parma, against Edinburgh and the Cardiff Blues. They also managed to record a home win against Worcester Warriors from the Aviva Premiership last weekend in the Challenge Cup.

The Scarlets are unbeaten in their last 11 games at home in all competitions at the Parc y Scarlets, since Premiership side Harlequins beat them at the venue in the European Cup in January. They will be confident of extending that record on Saturday evening, when their visitors are Zebre from Parma in Italy, in Round 7 of the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament.

The home side lost their last match in the competition, 6-17 to Munster, but have not lost successive fixtures in the PRO12 since March, and Zebre with just one win in the tournament this season are unlikely to end that sequence. The Scarlets will need to be wary of the Italian outfit however, as they have proven this season that they are capable of providing the odd shock here and there, despite their lowly placing in the current table, where they reside in eleventh position, with only Treviso below them. Last Friday, they recorded their maiden European victory when winning in France against Brive, and they are the only side to defeat Ulster in the PRO12 this season, winning in Parma 13-6 in Round 4. Although that is their only win to date in the tournament this season.

Scarlets thrilling win at the Parc y Scarlets last week against the Irishmen from Connacht has put them into the driving seat for a place in next season's European Cup. Though they can not afford any slip ups, as they hold just a seven point advantage over Edinburgh, with the Scots having a game in hand. The Welsh side will hope to build on their win against Connacht with a bonus point home victory against the bottom of the table Italians of Zebre on Saturday. The Scarlets have lost just once in their last six outings against Italian sides, when they were beaten in round 22 at the end of last season, by Treviso at the Parc. Zebre themselves, picked up a creditable draw in round 18 against the Newport Gwent Dragons, drawing 25-25 in Parma. If they avoid defeat on Saturday, it would be the first time in their history that they have achieved back to back undefeated games.

The Italians themselves have plenty to play for, despite being rock bottom of the RaboDirect PRO12 tables. The side immediately above them, and by only four points, is their Italian rivals, Treviso. Whichever of the two sides finishes the higher, will gain a place in the European Cup next season. There is, therefore, plenty of incentive for the Italian side.
