Ulster                          Ospreys
Saturday 1st October 17:30 GMT

Top faces third in the RaboDirect PRO12 in Belfast on Saturday, when the unbeaten Irishmen of Ulster welcome the Ospreys from Wales. Ulster who have won all four of their fixtures in the new season, making them along with the Blues, one of only two sides with a 100% winning record at the end of Round 4. The only PRO12 defeat that the Ulstermen have suffered in the last nine games they have played in the tournament, was in last season's semi-final at the RDS, when they were knocked out by Leinster 18-30. Despite starting the season with four straight wins, Ulster have some way to go to equal their own PRO12 record of winning 11 fixtures from the start of a season. A feat they accomplished in the 2012/13 season.

The Ospreys started the season with a maximum 15 points from their first three fixtures, beating Zebre, Connacht and Treviso. But their bubble was well and truly burst last weekend, when they travelled to Dublin and were beaten 19-31 by Leinster. The Ospreys 32-11 victory in Galway in Round 2 against Connacht, was the only time that the Welsh Region have beaten an Irish Province in the last five attempts. The two sides have played each other on 26 occasions in the PRO12, with each of them winning 13 times. However, Ulster have held the edge in the more recent meetings, with just one defeat in the last six games between them, a 20-31 loss at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea back in December 2014.

The two sides who were beaten in the semi-finals of last season's Guinness PRO12 play-offs, meet in Round 1 in Belfast on Friday Evening, with Ulster playing host to the Ospreys from Wales. Both sides will be severely disrupted by international calls, but with a substantial part of the RaboDirect PRO12 season being played during the World Cup warm up period, and the tournament itself, it is a situation that they have to accept and adapt to. Their season's possibly being defined by what happens before they find themselves back up to full strength.

Ulster finished last season with a draw against Irish rivals Munster, and two defeats to Glasgow Warriors, in Round 22 of the regular season, and then in the play-off. However, they continue to defend a home record that has seen them unbeaten on home soil in Belfast since May 2014, when another Irish side, leinster, were the victorious visitors. The Ospreys are the only Welsh Region to have triumphed in Belfast since April 2010, having done so twice, in 2010 and again in 2013. However, they have managed just one win from their last four clashes with the Northern Irish Province, a 31-20 success at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea just before Christmas 2014.

The match of the week in the RaboDirect Pro12 tournament takes place in Belfast, when third place Ulster, who have been beaten just once this season, play host to unbeaten table toppers the Ospreys from Wales. The only loss suffered so far by the Irish Province in the competition, came in controversial circumstances, when they slipped 6-13 in Italy against Zebre in Round 4. The only win registered by either of the Italian side in the PRO12 this season.

Strangle, Friday's fixture will be Ulster's fourth consecutive home match in the PRO12, and to preserve their unbeaten run, the Ospreys will have to become just the second team to win at the Ravenhill ground since September 2013. However, the Ospreys have been in fine form with seven successive wins to start the season, which equals their best ever effort, which was first recorded some 10 years ago, a win on Friday will set a new club best. Recent matches between the two sides have been closely fought affairs, with the losing team securing a bonus point in each of the last five fixtures. However, the Ulstermen have held the edge during that time, with four wins out of five.
