Zebre                          Connacht
Saturday 17th September 16:05 GMT

Two of the four teams in the RaboDirect PRO12 tournament that have still to record a victory in this season's competition, meeton Saturday at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, when Zebre host the reigning Champions, Connacht from Ireland. For Zebre Saturday's fixture will be their first outing on home soil, having started the season with two trips to Wales to face the Ospreys and the Newport Gwent Dragons. The visit to the Liberty Stadium in Swansea, ended in a 5-59 drubbing from the Ospreys. However, last weekend, the Italian side fared better at the Dragons, and although again beaten, the margin was only 6-11, and they at least salvaged a losing bonus point.

The last time that Zebre played at home was against the Dragons in Round 22 last season, when they recorded a 47-22 victory. But they haven't won back to back games at the venue since October of 2015. Connacht have made a disastrous start in defence of the title that they so surprisingly won last season. Two matches played and two lost, a points difference of -57, and bottom position in the table after two rounds of fixtures. Even worst, is the fact that both defeats came at home in Galway, where they were only beaten once last season, by fellow Irishmen, Ulster. In Round 1, the Glasgow Warriors battered them by 5-41, while last weekend wasn't much better as the ran out 11-32 winners.

Zebre, the Parma based Italian franchise have been enjoying the best season in their short history. However, last Friday they travelled to Dublin to face Leinster, and suffered their second biggest loss ever in the Guinness PRO12 tournament, slumping 0-52. On Saturday, the Italians will host Connacht at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, looking for only a second ever win against an Irish side. The previous success coming in September 2014, in a somewhat controversial 13-6 contest against Ulster in Parma.

Connacht who are currently in second position in the PRO12 table, have scored more tries than any other team in the tournament, having accumulated 36 in the 14 games they have played, nine of which they have won. The Italian side are in eleventh position, with four wins to their credit this season. If they manage to bounce back from the thrashing in Dublin last week, they will register a first ever victory over the Irish Province, after 11 previous defeats. Connacht will be anxious to claim a fifth successive win in Italy, to help maintain the buffer that they currently have over the fifth placed team, Edinburgh, currently standing at seven points, as they seek a first ever appearance in the knockout phase of the competition.

Zebre are at home to the Irish Province of Connacht on Saturday at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, seeking the win that might yet see them overtake their fellow countrymen from Benetton Treviso, and thus claim their nations place in next seasons Champions Cup. However, they have only a single win to their name since the Round 9 fixtures in the RaboDirect PRO12, which came against the Newport Gwent Dragons on 1st March, leaving them trailing Treviso by three points with just two rounds of matches remaining. Although Connacht have lost five games on the trot in all competitions since they defeated Treviso in Galway at the beginning of March by a thumping 53-5, they will face a team that has only beaten an Irish team on one occasion in 27 attempts. Back in September 2014 they beat Ulster.

Connacht and Zebre have played each other nine times previously, with the Irishmen having a 100% winning record. They are also on a run of seven successive wins against Italian opponents. The Irishmen, although in eighth place in the table are still in with a chance of qualifying for next season's Champions Cup, but will almost certainly need to win their last two games to have a chance. They should gain at least the first of these successes on Saturday in Italy.

At least there will be something at stake on Sunday, when Zebre from Italy meet Connacht from Ireland in the RaboDirect PRO12 at the Stadio XXV Aprile, even if it is only the wooden spoon. Although bottom spot in the final table won't be confirmed by the result between the two sides this weekend, it will go a long way to deciding who finishes at the bottom of the pile, when it is considered that between them, they have recorded just five wins from 28 matches during the current tournament. Zebre have won only one game at home this season, which came against their fellow Italians, Treviso on 4 January, and only twice in total during the season and a half that they have participated in the RaboDirect PRO12. They have previously faced Irish opposition 18 times in all competitions, and have a perfect record, of 18 defeats. Connacht's narrow 11-7 victory over Edinburgh last weekend, which lifted them above Zebre in the table, was only their third in the tournament this season, and ended a three game losing streak in the league.

The Irish Province has yet to win away from Galway in the PRO12 this season, but they did win twice on the road in the Heineken Cup. Against Zebre, who lost all six pool matches in that competition, and most memorably against the European aristocrats of Toulouse. The seven games that the teams have played against each other in various tournaments previously, have all ended in victory for the Irishmen.

On Friday, the 7th of September, Zebre and Connacht paly in Parma as part of the RaboDirect Pro12 competition. It happens at 20:05 or an hour earlier GMT. Zebre is currently the last team on the table. Like the Glasgow and Leinster Teams, they had no luck on the first game, and in fact, didn't earn a single point. Those three teams occupy the bottom of the table with zero right now. As for the Connacht team, they take the seventh spot on the standings with one game played and no wins. However, they were able to earn a point.

The top two teams right now have also played and won one game each. However, they were able to earn more points than the other teams on the table, getting them the top two spots for now. Dragons and Scarlets have five each.
