Los Pumas of Argentina and the Wallabies of Australia will break new ground on Saturday when they face each other in the final fixture of the 2016 Rugby Championship. Saturday's fixture will take place at Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby, the first time that a fixture in the tournament has taken place in Europe. The two sides went head to head in Round 4, when Australia were victorious by 36-20, outscoring the visitors by scoring 5-2 tries. Last weekend Los Pumas faced the All Blacks, and were beaten by 17-36, the final margin of victory being closer than had looked likely at one time, thanks to a couple of late scores, while the visitors had players in the "sin bin".

Argentina's only win the 2016 competition came in Round 2, when they defeated the Springboks in Salta. The two sides played each other at Twickenham in the World Cup semi-final in 2015, when the Australia were the winners by 29-15, and scored all four tries on the day. The Wallabies were beaten in Round 5 by the Springboks 10-18, despite scoring the game's only try, and dominating territory. As a result, they slipped to third in the table, a point behind the Boks, and four ahead of Argentina.

Argentina will hope that they can repeat last seasons result against the Wallabies in Mendoza on Saturday night. The last match of the 2014 season, brought the Argentina their first win in the Rugby Championship by 21-17. The venue was also the location of the only other fixture in the competition where the Pumas have avoided defeat. In 2012 they managed a 16-16 draw with the Springboks. Last weekend, the Pumas managed to stage something of a second half comeback in Christchurch against the All Blacks. Although the final score was 39-18 to the New Zealanders, their two tries kept an air of respectability to the scoreline, when the South Americans had looked on course for a complete thumping at one stage.

Australia opened their title challenge with a win in Brisbane against the Springboks by 24-20, having trailed by 13 points early in the second half. With a home match against the All Blacks to finish their tournament, the Wallabies will be hoping that they achieve what would be only a third away win in ten Rugby Championship matches, to set up what could be a winner take all finale to the 2015 tournament, and send them off to the World Cup, and their “Group of Death”, in the highest spirits.
