It is a case of top against bottom when Argentina go head to head with the New Zealand All Blacks at the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena in Salta on Saturday in Round 5 of the Rugby Championship. Los Pumas began the tournament in bright form, pushing the Springboks all the way, before going down 23-30 away from home, before winning the return a week later by 26-24 in another thriller. Even the All blacks were forced to work harder than they have in the rest of the competition for what was eventually a 57-22 victory. However, the World Champions had led by a mere two points early in the second period, before easing home late on.

Last time out, Argentina gave probably their worst display of the season,, as they found themselves trailing in Perth to the Wallabies 0-21 after just 12 minutes. That they recovered their composure to only lose 20-36, says something about the increasing mental strength of the side. The All Blacks have already clinched the title, claiming four maximum point victories to date, and scoring a total of 24 tries in their four fixtures, with no side managing to score more than a single try against the them in the course of a game. Ahead of their trip to South America, the All Blacks have now won 15 Test matches in a row, and are just two short of equalling the World record.

Now in their third season of participating in the Rugby Championship, the Pumas of Argentina are still seeking their first victory in the tournament. However, this season has seen them come closer than ever to breaking their duck, and have secured losing-bonus points in three of their four fixtures. On Saturday, they make their latest attempt to record a win in the competition, when they play host to the mighty All Blacks at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata. The reigning champions have had a much stiffer challenge to their supremacy of recent seasons during the 2014 tournament. In their most recent game, they managed to sneak a 14-10 win against the Springboks, which has given them a six point lead at the top of the table, a result that also extended their unbeaten run to 21 matches.

All Blacks hooker Dane Coles will miss the match, as he has travelled home for the birth of his first child. Kevin Mealamu is now expected to start, while the uncapped Bay of Plenty’s Nathan Harris has travelled to South America to provide cover from the bench. The Kiwis will also be without fly half Aaron Cruden, who has been suspended for the next two Test matches, having missed the plane, due to a drinking session. His absence provides an opening for Beauden Barrett to start in the No.10 jersey, with Canterbury’s Tom Taylor given his chance on the bench.

After losing their 4th game of the championship as well, Argentina hopes to come up with something better as they face the top of the table, New Zealand, in the 10th match, this Saturday. Argentina will host the Kiwis at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata. Argentina went down to the average Australians by 4-1 in the last game, and thus count as the worst team of the championship. They need to regroup, plan and practice for the next game, and forget what happened in the past 4 games, and who knows they might surprise New Zealand.

Argentina will feel a huge boost in confidence as Patricio Albacete returns in place Manuel Carizza. 5 to 6 more changes are expected in the side from the previous game, as Argentina hope for a better performance from the newly included players. New Zealand will be feeling comfortable after securing 4 back to back wins in the championship. They will be pretty confident of making 5 out of 5 wins, as they face the low-profile Argentina, this Saturday. Andrew Hore comes in place of Dane Coles, and Aaron Cruden will replace the injured Dan Carter, in the two expected changes for New Zealand.
