Never previously in Rugby World Cup history, has the host nation failed to survive the Pool stage of the tournament. But on Saturday Evening at Twickenham Stadium, that could all change, as England face Australia in the Pool of Death, knowing that this is an absolute must win contest.
The Wallabies, who came into the tournament having taken the All Blacks Rugby Championship title off of them, have eased into the tournament, with a slightly laboured win against Fiji in Cardiff, before a largely second choice XV posted 11 tries against Uruguay in a 65-3 win. With England also expected to finish their Pool A matches with a try-scoring bonus point victory next week in Manchester against Uruguay, Australia know how important Saturday's match is to them also, as they will finish their qualifying campaign with another titanic clash with Wales.
The last four meetings of these two sides, have all been at Twickenham, with the hosts successful on three occasions, including during last Autumn's series of games, when England won by 26-17. In none of those games, has either side managed to score more than two tries, and it would be a surprise if the victors on Saturday were able to buck that trend.
