Ireland should follow up their routine victory against Canada in their opening Pool D fixture in Cardiff, with another bonus point success against Romania on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.
The Pool, as expected, is already looking a fairly straightforward matter for the Irish and France to qualify from, with the final positions almost certain to be decided in a Cardiff shootout between the two 6-Nations rivals in 2 weeks time. With the losers almost certain to face the All Blacks in the last eight, top spot in Pool D appears absolutely essential to the chances of both sides of making progress in the knockout phase. Romania's first game of the tournament saw them slide to an 11-38 defeat at the Olympic Stadium against France. While the final scoreline perhaps flattered the French, they had made wholesale changes to the side that had defeated Italy at Twickenham just four days previously. Whether the Oaks of Romania can raise their game to the same competitive lever again, just four days after giving their all against the French, will be a massive challenge, and one that given their playing resources may prove beyond them.
It is a decade since the countries played each other. On that occasion, the Irish ran in six tries on their way to a 43-12 win. It would be no surprise if Sunday's outcome was something similar.
