The Barbarians, under the coaching leadership of ex-All Blacks Jamie Joseph and Carlos Spencer, have assembled a quality squad of players to take on Samoa on Saturday, despite not being able to call on any players required by their countries for World Cup duty. Saturday's fixture is an important part of Samoa's World Cup preparations, and will be the first ever game of rugby to be played at London's Olympic Stadium, although their will be World Cup fixtures, including the bronze-medal match, held at the venue. The invitation team have assembled a squad that includes four World Cup-winners amongst its numbers, and which is dominated by 12 Australians.

The former Samoa full back, whose father Bryan was one of New Zealand's great wingers during the 70's, now plying his trade in France with Stade Francais, will face his countrymen, his Samoan caps helping the Barbarians squad to total 545 international appearances between them.

Samoa ran the All Blacks close during the Summer, before embarking on the IRB Pacific Nations Cup challenge. In the qualifying stages hey recorded narrow wins against both the USA and Canada, while drawing 30-30 with their great rivals Fiji. The final saw a rematch between the South Sea Islanders, that Fiji won by 39-29, outscoring Samoa by 5-3 tries.
