Friday 30th January 19:45 GMT

The Irish Wolfhounds host England Saxons, effectively the 2nd XVs of both countries, at the newly redeveloped Irish Independent Park in Cork (previously and more famously known as Musgrave Park) on Friday Evening. With the Six nations tournament not starting until the following weekend, there will be players in both camps eager to make an impression on their national coaches and selectors, and to make a late bid for inclusion in the forthcoming tournament.

Most of Friday’s attention is likely to be centred on England’s 26 year old Sam Burgess, who is set to wear an England International shirt for the first time. After spending eight seasons playing rugby league in England and Australia, Burgess a superstar in league changed codes in the summer, and has made a handful of appearance for his club side Bath. His international bow is eagerly awaited, with the World Cup just eight months away.

For the Ireland A, flanker Sean O’Brien could make a comeback, after being plagued by a shoulder injury for over a year. His last international appearance came in the heart breaking 22-24 autumn Test defeat against the All Blacks in November 2013. Less likely to make an appearance is loosehead prop, Cian Healy, who looks to have failed in his bid to overcome the hamstring problems that have troubled him all season.
