After last season's U20 Grand Slam, when the team managed a meagre 11 tires in securing the title, the Junior French team ran riot against the Scots scoring a total of seven tries, while conceding just two penalty kicks. Although the Irish won by a similar margin to Friday's opponents at the Stadio Pozzi Lamarmora, triumphing by 47-15, they initially at least had to subdue a highly competitive Italian team, in a match played in atrocious weather conditions. It may well be that a competitive fixture will serve the Ireland Under 20s better than the easier run out that their visitors endured. Though with many of the France Under 20s squad battle hardened in the Top 14 tournament, and the French squad training together for a week each month since last August, the lack of competition from the Scots may not hamper them so much as the Irish rolling maul, which was a mighty impressive weapon in the win over the Italians.
