The sides occupying the bottom two places in the Six Nations U20's table, Ireland and Italy Under 20s, meet at Donnybrook Stadium in Dublin on Friday Evening. Ireland might have been expected to go into this weekend's contest level with Italy, on zero points, but for a stunning second half comeback that saw them defeat England two weeks ago, and end the English hopes of successfully defending their title. The Irish youngsters had previously lost at home against Wales, and then away to France. When they trailed to England by 6-20 early in the second period, it looked odds on that they would suffer a third loss. However, tries from James Ryan, Matthew Byrne and Andrew Porter saw the Irish fight back to claim a famous 26-20 victory.

Italy arrive in Ireland Under 20s having, like the senior XV, lost all three of their fixtures in the 2016 tournament. Defeats in the first two rounds in France and at home to England, saw them concede over 80 points, while managing just 10 of their own. With coach Alessandro Troncon making four changes for the match in Round 3 against Scotland, the young Italians produced a more competitive performance. However, they still slipped to a third consecutive defeat by 14-24.

Mike Ruddock's Ireland Under 20s may have opened their U20 Six Nations Championship campaign with a stunning four try victory against their Scottish counterparts, but the wheels have come off their championship challenge in the subsequent matches. When the Welsh visited Dubarry Park in round two, they left with a hard fought 16-0 victory. Unfortunately next up for Ruddock's charges, was a trip to Franklin's Gardens to take on the World Champions, England. On the evening, England proved unstoppable, and the Irish were well beaten long before the final whistle, 33-9. They now sit fourth in the table, and face Italy on Friday evening. The Italians themselves, started the season in stumbling fashion, with thumping defeats away to both Wales and France, before they themselves recorded a four try success against Scotland's U20s. While neither side will be making a challenge for the championship, the last two rounds of matches will prove important as they prepare for the U20 World Cup in New Zealand during the summer.

Ruddock has been keen to talk up his team's performance against England, believing that the score line did his side no justice, stating that they didn't lack quality, they just lacked the clinical edge that their opponents had, when it came to taking their chances.
