The first Super Rugby fixture to be played on Saturday, takes place at Eden Park in Auckland, and pits two New Zealand sides against each other, as the Blues welcome their great rivals from the South Island, the Crusaders. The Blues go into their final Super Rugby fixture before the International break on a run of four wins in the last five outings, including a 17-13 away win in Perth last weekend against the Force. They now have a record of six wins and a draw to set alongside four defeats.

The Blues have suffered just a single loss on home soil in five matches in 2016, against the Hurricanes 23-29. In their previous meeting this season with the Crusaders, they were beaten by 13-28 in Christchurch. The Crusaders are second in the New Zealand Conference, just a single point behind the Chiefs. After a run of eight straight wins was brought to an end in Dunedin in Round 12 by the Highlanders, the seven ties Champions returned to winning ways last week with a 29-10 success against the Waratahs. The Blues last victory against the Crusaders came back in 2014 in Auckland by 35-24. Since when the Crusaders have won four successive fixtures between the teams.

All that the Blues have left to play for in the last couple of weeks of Super Rugby 2015s regular season, is to try and avoid slipping to the foot of the overall table, where they are currently in fourteenth place, just five points ahead of the Force. On Saturday they face a New Zealand derby against their greatest and fiercest rivals, the Crusaders. A match that the visitors have to win, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of making it through to the post-season play-offs. The Blues have had an extra week's preparation, having had a bye last weekend, and will hope that they can add to their three wins at Eden park this season on Saturday. The three successes, the only ones registered by the Blues in 2015, camne against the Brumbies, Force and the Bulls. Meaning they are still looking for their first win this season against another Kiwi outfit.

The Crusaders inflicted just a second defeat of the season on the Hurricanes last weekend, with a stunning 35-18 win, in a match that they had to win to keep their hopes alive. The sides met in Round 11 in Christchurch, where the Crusaders won 29-15, and managed to collect a try-scoring bonus point in the process.

Following the opening round loss to the Chiefs, the Crusaders' Head Coach, Todd Blackadder, has made four changes to his side for the trip to Eden Park, Auckland to take on the Blues this weekend. Following that 19-18 reverse against the Chiefs, the Crusaders will certainly get a boost from the return to the side of No.8 Kieran Read and Colin Slade. Not only will Read be making his first start of the season, but he will also skipper the side on his return to action. Slade having recovered from a bruised calf will start at full back, with All Black, Israel Dagg, ready to join the fray when called upon from the bench.

Crusaders will field a formidable back row, as Read will be partnered by Richie McCaw and George Whitelock, at open side and blindside flanker respectively. Matt Todd will be the back up to the back row trio from the bench. Blackadder hands a debut on the wing to Rob Thompson, who will become the 175th player to wear the Crusaders colors, when he takes the field on Friday night. The other winger barely has more experience than Thompson, with Nafi Tuitavake set to make just his second appearance.

On Friday, the 24th of February, Super Rugby sees the Blues and Crusaders face off in Auckland. This event will be at 19:35 local time and 06:35 GMT. There are some changes being made this year. One is that the points are secondary to the number of wins. Teams get four points for a win, as well as for a bye. If they draw they get two points, and there is a point awarded for a loss as long as the score is within seven points. There is one bonus point for four tries or more. The teams are divided up into three different conferences.
